( of the City of Petaluma, California 2 3 4 DENYING THE APPEAL OF THE SITE PLAN AND ARCHITECTlJRAL REVIEW 5 COMMITTEE'S DENIAL OF A PROPOSAL TO INSTALL AN AWNING AT THE 6 ENTRYWAY OF MOTEL 6 7 8 WHEREAS on June 18, 1998, Robert Rogers of Barber Sign Company, on behalf of 9 Motel 6, applied for Site Plan and Architectural Review Committee review of a proposal to to install a double facet awning with two "Welcome" messages on the second floor of the 11 existing building at 1368 North McDowell Boulevard; and 12 13 WHEREAS on July 9, 1998, the Site Plan and Architectural Review Committee held a 14 duly noticed public hearing on the proposal and denied the request; and 15 l6 WHEREAS on July 23, 1998, Mr. Rogers appealed the Site Plan and Architectural t7 Review Committee's denial to the City Council; and is 19 WHEREAS the City Council on August 1'7,'1998 held a noticed public hearing on the 20 appeal, and finds the proposal to be exempt from the requirements of the California 21 Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) under Section 15270, as projects that are denied are 22 ,exempt from CEQA. 23 z4 NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the City Council hereby denies the appeal 25 and upholds the decision of the Site Plan and Architectural Review Committee based on 26 the following findings: 27 28 1. The location of the proposed awning conflicts with the existing architectural style 29 of the building by breaking up the visual continuity of the railing. 30 2.
