HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution 98-189 N.C.S. 09/08/1998 Resolution No. 98.189 N.C.S. l of the City of Petaluma, California 2 3 RESOLUTION REGARDING 4 CITY COUNCIL SELECTION OF THE 5 SHEET PILE FLOODWALL DESIGN ALTERNATIVE 6 FOR THE 7 CORPS OF ENGINEERS PAYRAN REACH 8 FLOOD IMPROVEMENT PROJECT 9 AND 10 TERMINATING PURSUTT OF A HOME 11 ACQUISITION ALTERNATIVE 12 13 14 WHEREAS, the City Council at its August 17, 1998 meeting received a status report l5 from City staff and representatives of the U. S. Army Corps of Engineers regarding the 16 Army Corps of Engineers Payran Reach Flood Improvement Project; and, 17 18 WHEREAS, in order for the Corps of Engineers to stay on schedule with their design of 19 the Phase II Trapezoidal Improvements it is necessary to provide direction on which of 20 three (3) floodwall alternatives the City supports; and, 21 22 WHEREAS, the sheet pile wall alternative is the least expensive and least disruptive 23 during construction to the existing neighborhood; and, 24 25 WHEREAS, the City desires the Corps of Engineers to look at an alternative of a 26 redwood fence gather than a precast panel hung on the sheet pile wall which might provide 27 an additional significant cost savings; and 28 29 WHEREAS, in a letter dated August 11, 1998 from the Corps of Engineers, as indicated 30 a home acquisition alternative - 31 o Could result in a 2-year time delay; 32 o Necessitate acquiring regulatory approvals of an alternative design; 33 o Require a-new agreement between the Corps of Engineers and the City of Petaluma; 34 s Require additional environmental review; and. 35 o Be more costly. Resolution No. 9H-I S9 N.c.s. Page 1 of 2 1 2 NOW, THEREFORE, BE TT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of 3 Petaluma, directs the U. S. Army Corps of Engineers and City staff to pursue the design of 4 a sheet pile wall alternative with the option of a backyard redwood fence and terminates 5 pursuit of a home acquisition alternative. 6 7 8 flodwalUsb/agenda/hd/a:3 9 Under the power and authority conferred upon this Council by the Charter of said City.
