Regular meeting of the Council of the -City, of Petaluma
called to order by Mayor.Farrell.,,
ROLL CALL:
`Present: Counc,ilman•Ingerson, McFadden, Miller, Riewerts,
Schluckebier", Van Bebber and Mayor Farrell.
READING OF THE JOURNAL:-
::. ' ' � ' " The minutes of the last regular meeting of November 2nd
were read.and approved as recorded.
REPORTS OF CITY OFFICIALS:
Sewer_"I" & Sunnyslope Ave.:
The City Engineer was directed to prepare plans and
specifications for a,.six=inch iron: -stone sewer along; Rodgers Creek
in the rear of the Rodgers; blurphy, Denham and other property in
lieu of the specifications for a sewer on I Street as ordered at
the previous meeting.
REPORTS OF STANDING COMMI-TTEES.:
The Finance Committee• submitted its report, whereupon,
Resolution #4064 C.S.
introduced by Councilman Miller, seconded by Councilman McFadden,
directing the•Auditorto draw warrants against the various City
Funds in'payment of claims allowed and approved by the Finance
Committee, adopted. by° 7 affirmative votes.
PETITIONS AND COMMUNICATIONS':
Application. of IN,. Lerer & Sons fo.r permission to construct
a building in.Re,s.,tricted Area B,"which application had been approved,
by, the' Fire Chief, read and filed, and
Resolution #4065. G.S.
introduced by Councilman Miller, seconded by Councilman Riewerts,
granting said application, adopted by 7 affirmative votes.
.Application of Bessie C. Herrmann for a six months
temporary permit to use property located at 501•Baasett Street
for business purposes, read and filed, ;and
Resolution .#4066 C . S,.
introduced by Councilman Ingerson, seconded 'ray-Gouncilman Riewerts,
granting said application upon the condition that the business 'to
be carried on in said premises shall_ be that of a lunch room for
the service of meals on the premises and for the sale of sof t
drinks to be served only with meals and for the sale of candy
and ice cream, adopted by 7'affirmative votes.
Communication from the Veterans' Welfare Board of the
State of California, notifying the City Assessor to cancel city
taxes against certain premises, -being a portion of Lot 547,formerly,
standing in the name,of Hall and Elzada Weston,, now in the name,
of the State of Calif ornia, - read and filed, and
Resolution #4067 C.S.
introduced by Councilman Miller, seconded by Councilman Riewerts,
granting said application and directing the City Assessor and Tax
and License Collector to cancel said assessment, adopted by 7
affirmative votes.
NEW BUSINESS:'
Councilman 'McFadden presented a plan for re -modeling
the five -light elecgroliers on East Washington Street and around
Hotel Petaluma to a modern one -light electrolier, the cost to be
about $1000.00. This change would, of course, eliminate much
of the present cost of.main'tenance. It was .,-he consensus of
opinion that this change should be made if possible. The matter
was laid on the table pending a report.f.rom the Finance Committee.
The Superintendent of. Streets reported that the P. G. & `
C. Co., had asked permission to excavate the concrete pavements
of the business streets in; several places to seek dangerous natural'
gas leaks, the work being imperative for the safety of the public.
The Council unanimously agreed that this is a dangerous condition
and authority was .granted the P. G. & E. Co. to proceed with the work.
Mayor Farr'ell reported tha't the call he had sent out
for the organization of a local unemploT�ient relief committee had
met with enthusiastic response; that a general committee had been
appointed and the .work was now under way., The Clerk was directed to
or theirkindnesssend a letter of thanks to the Knights -of Pythias for
in allowing this meeting to.be, held in their hall,.
Mayor Farrell also reported that Engineer Mr. Nishkian
is making excellent progress in the preliminary..°woric,conneated.,wi:th
the "erection of a new bridge across D Street, and that it may be
necessary for the city to acquire a small piece of property just east
of the present bridge, in order to place the proposed structure at
the desired angle..
Police Chief Peters was formally directed to enforce the
new license ordinance governing peddlers.
