HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution 98-111 06/01/1998 I Resolution No. ss-111 N.C.S. 2 of the City of Petaluma, California 3 4 5 RESOLUTION AllOPTING A MOTION TO INTERVENE IN THE FEDERAL ENERGY 6 REGULATORY COMMISSION PROCESS REGARDING PACIFIC GAS & ELECTRIC 7 COMPANY'S PROPOSAL TO AMEND THE MINIMUM FLOW RELEASE 8 SCHEDULE FOR THE POTTER VALLEY PROJECT 9 10 1 1 WHEREAS, the Sonoma County Water Agency asked all cities in Sonoma County to 12 become involved in the Federal Energy Regulatory Conunission (FERC) process regarding 13 Pacific Gas & Electric Company's (PG&E's) proposal to reduce water diversions from the Eel 7 4 River to the Russian River by up to I S%; and IS 16 WHEREAS, the proposed reduction of water from the Eel River to the Russian River is 17 to allow additional protection to fishery resources in the Eel River; and 18 19 WHEREAS, reducing the diversion of water from the Eel River to the Russian River will 20 cause economic impacts to all cities as well as potential impacts on the cities' water rights; and 21 22 WHEREAS, the City of Petaluma provides municipal government services to over 23 50,000 citizens, including water and wastewater services, and holds water-rights to the Russian 24 River that could be impacted by the proposed action by PG&E; and 25 26 WHEREAS, the City of Petaluma provides domestic water to it's citizens and relies upon 27 a certain amount of water from the Russian River that could be impacted by the potential 15% 28 reduction of water availability, and accordingly, has a direct interest in this proceeding which 29 cannot be adequately represented by another party; and 30 31 WHEREAS, the process of intervention will allow the City of Petaluma to serve the 32 public interest by officially becoming part of the review and comment process which will insure 33 the City the opportunity to present any testimony or evidence during the application review time. 34 35 36 Resolution No. 9H-111 x.cs.
