May 15, 1933.
Regular meeting of the Council of the City of Petaluma called
to order by Mayor Farrell.'
ROLL CALL:-
resent: Councilmen I°nger.son,, McFadden, Miller, Riewerts,
Schluckebier, Van Bebber, and Mayor Farrell.
READING OY� THE :JOURNAL,:
he minutes of the last regular meeting of May lst were read
and approved as'recorded.
REPORTS' OF OFFICERS:
e. Clerk reported the' filing of Affidavits of Publication of
Ordinances No. 404 and 405 C. 8.
•
'The report of the Librarian for the month of April was read
and filed. Mayor Farrell complimented the , Librarian for the splendid
report and for her activities in the California Library Association.. of
which she was elected President of the Municipal Libraries Section.
REPORTS OF STANDING COMMITTEES:
The Finance Committee submitted its.report, whereupon

in`troduced Councilman McFadden,, seconded by Councilman Miller,
directing the Auditor to draw warrants against the various funds in
payment of claims allowed .and approved by the Finance Committee, adopted
by 7 affirmative votes.
Piling for Water St. wharf
Councilman Ingerson reported having investigated the need °of new
piles for the Water Street wharf and ,stated that he believed about 35
new piles would be required. He asked that the members of the City
Council pers'onaily - view the wharf.
Councilman Schluckebier reported having met -with the
and Mr. McManus of the Puget Sound Dredging Company regarding the removal
of Maclay point but that no definite figure had been obtained from the
dredging company and asked for further time in which to report.
Councilman Riewerts reported that Mr. J. B. Piatt had offered to
sell to the 'C tjr of Petaluma .a fire 'proof filing cabinet and that Mr.
Stu.ddert had expressed a need for such a cabinet for his records. The
matter was discussed and referred back to Councilman Riewerts for further
investigation.
ADOPTION OF 0 °RDINANCES:
Or.inance No. 403 C.S. was again laid on the table.
Ordinance No. 405 C,S. introduced,by Councilman Miller, seconded
by Councilman Schluckebier-, providing that the license fee for the sale
of soft-drinks be paid in one annual installment, came up regularly and
was adopted by 7 affirmative votes.
NEW BUSINESS:

introduced by Councilman Miller, seconded by Councilman Riewerts,
accepting - deed dated October 25, 1932, from James B. Burdell to the
City of Petaluma., adopted by 7 affirmative votes:
Lease of garden strip from N.W'.P,.P.Ry. Co.
Resolution #4180 C.S.
introduced by Councilman Riewerts, seconded by Councilman Miller,
approving and accepting the _lease by the Northwestern Pacific R.R.Go.

property corner of Hopper and ��ashi�ngton Streets, for t 1.00 'per
year,—and authorizing the Mayor and City Clerk to execute said lease,
adopted'by 7 affirmative votes.
Appointment of Bridge: T:ende'r:
The Clerk reported on the ratings of then first eight applicants
for the position of bridge tender of the new D Street bridge, stating

that Carl A4 Young had received the highest rating.az Thehmatter was
discussed at length as to hours to be employed., salary to -be o e paid.,
etc. The Mayor was asked. to,notify Mr. Young that he had received
the highest rating and to ascertain under which conditions Mr.
Young would be willing to accept the'position.
