Regul:ar meeting of the Council of, the. City of.Petaluma called to
order 'by - Mayor Farrell.
'ROLL CALL:
Present: Councilmen Deiss, McFadden Riewerts,, Schluckebier Van
Bobber Woodson 'and - Mayor 'Fair-
rell.
READING OF "THE. JQURFA]L::,.
The'inihtires or the last regular meeting of December 18th were
read an as recorded.
REPORTS 'OF - OTFICERS". ,
The month Y reports of the Garbage Inspector, Auditor, Treasurer,
Wharfin,ger-, and Police Judge were read and filed.
The City Engineer submitted an estimate of cost of the improvement
of Third Street, between C and D Streets.
REPORTS OF STANDING COMMITTEES
The Finande Com*niittee submitted its rop6rt,, whereupon
Resolution #4242 C.,S..
Introduced by Councilman Riewerts, seconded by Councilman Woodson,
direlati-na the Auditor to draw warrants against- the various City.,
Fundy in payment of claims allowed and approved by the Finance Committee,,
adopted by 7 affirmative votes.
Councilman'Riewert reported having o.onferred with the Manager
of • the. Minstrels and had determined that the financial al aid which they
request is to be used'princIpally for traveling expenses and the replacing
of their members in emergencies. No action taken.
PETITIONS AND COMMUNICATIONS:
Petitions signed bjr�3_95 residents of the City of Petaluma
'obje to the present garbage collectors and a -
lleging that :first -
the service is innefficient and no courtesy is shown; and second, -
that rates and charges excessive; read and filed. The petitions were
acoompanled with affidavits of some eleven affiants, which affidavits..
were also Piled.
IM7 BUSINESS-..
Mr Nielsen of the Merchants Committee of the Chamber of
Commerce addressed the CouncI1 asking that the business district be
given police pr6teation at all hours. The matter was referred to the
Finance C6mndtte'e for investigation and re,port back.
Mayor.-Far asked Chief Peters to detail an officer to collect
the -daizr,y, licenses and' to give notice that the ordinances relative;
th6reto will be stri.etly enforced.
Attorney Cromwell reported that the application for federal aid
for the construction of the new setage system had been sent to the P. W. A.
headquarters Francisao several days ago.
Sberetary Dolph Young of the Chamber of Commerce•gave�notiae that
work on the City Hall will begin sho and suggested that the paper
and paint be selected s.00n.
Garbage 06.11ecti6n:
Attorney Howel - l'address ' ed.the Council in behalf of the petitions
asking f the cancel of the City's contract with the Garbage
, Collectors., reading In detail. the affidavits' which supported his plea,
and reviewing the historyof the case. Mayor Farrell stated that the
matter was one of unusual importance and If 'there was no objection he
would appoint a special committee t o go into the matter carefully. His
suggestion was approved by all of the members of the Council.
