Special meeting of the Council ' of the 'City' of Petaluma
called to order by Mayor McFadden.

Penry, Woodson'and McFadden.
The Clerk read the Mayors call for meeting "which "stated
that the mee ing was call ed for the purpo s e of discussion
and if advisable taking acti - on in the city's, participation in the
plan as suggested in the proposal .of the Sonoma. County Board" ,of
Supervisors, in behalf of the unemployed of the County, and :the
discussion of the solecfiion and possible 47ppointment of a Police
Judge to succeed the 'late Judge John P. Gallagher.
The Clerk read the proposal of the Supervisors, relative
to relief for the unemployed. The Council heard the report of
Mayor McFadden relative: to conference with. the Supervisors in the ,s
Young of the s ;e h.amberiCd propo ,sed relief, and also heard Secretary Dolph
g of Commerce and H. A. Warmoth. After a
long discussion the Council on motion .made by Councilman Woodson
seconded: b.y Councilman Jone , deferred action in the matter until- H.
after such time as the Mayon can get in touch with. other Mayors of
the County and secure their views and their probable action.
The changing of the Salary of the Pol ice Judge was discussed
and after legal, ,opinion by the City Attorney, was left at$150400
'per month.
The appli- cations of Fred Q. Hames, J. Hall. Lewis.,-:
Frank H. Phillips,,. D. W. Ramp, Frank E. Mardis., who• preaenfed
a petition; with 1158, names, Thomas C. Ve "stal, -. wit,th a. petition
: of ;11.4 names, Robert .Ellison,. R. C . Christie, Z P: Millington,
and L. B, Thomas for - Police Judge to succeed the - late John P.
Gallagher were read together with a letter from a ma jority of
the :Attorneys - of this City, urging, that the appointee for that
office be a practicing .attorney, itrwas freely 'discussed by the;r
Council and a straw Ballot was taken,- with four votes cast_ for
J. Hal,I . Lewis, two votes, for L. B. .Thomas,, • -and one vote -for
Attorney Mooney, Whereupon-
RESOLUTION NO 4297 C. S.
introduced. by Councilman E Denman McNear seconded by Councilman.
Wm. Deiss appointing J. Hall Lew &st Police Judge to fill the `
unexpired term of the late Judge John P Gallagher adopted by
7 affirmative votes.
ADJOURNMENT:;
'There being no further bus "ne_ss on motion regularly made
and carried. -.the meeting adjourned.
