Regular meeting of the Council of the City o.f.Petaluma
called to order by Mayor .McFadden.
ROLL CALL:
Present:' Councilmen Deiss', Gervasoni, Jones Mc.Near, Penry,
and Mayor. McFadden.
Absent: Councilman Woodson.
READING OF THE JOURNAL:
T,hiq minutes of the last regular meeting of July 16th and the
special meeting of July 24th were. read and approved /as,recorded.
REPORTS OF OFFICERS
The monthly reports of the Wharfinger, Police Judge, Auditor,
and Treasurer were read and filed.
- The annual rr;eport of the Library Trustees was read and filed.
The• Clerk reported the filing of Affidavits of Publication
of Ordinance No._ 422• C. S. and of Notices to bidders. re town clock
and sprinkling system.

PETITIONS AND COMMUNICATIONS:
Letter from the 20-30 Club inviting the Mayor and Council to
attend.its weekly meeting on,Wednesday evening, August 22nd, at Hotel
Petaluma, read.• filed, and unanimously accepted.
Communication from the War Department., stating that the
modification of the pro,je•ct for further improvement of Petaluma Creek
is considered unnecessary at this time,-,read and filed. "
ADOPTION OF ORDINANCES:
Ordinance No, 420 C S. introduced by Councilman Gervasoni,
seconded. b,y Councilman •Deiss, providing fora the ,appropri and
expenditure of the sum of $200.00 for the payment of premium on surety
bond in the principal• sum of $40,000-. on the City Treasurer, came up
regularly and was adopt ed -by 6 affirmative votes, 1 absentee.
Ordinance No 42.1 C. S.. introduced by Councilman Penry,
seconded by Councilman Jones, providing for the-removal of th.e clock
and.tower situated on the top of the northeast corner- of `the Ma.soric
Hall Association Building in this city; for the repairs made necessary
by such removal; for the replastering, relathing, and repainting. of the,
social hall in said building under said tower, came up regularly and
was -adop by 6 affirmative votes, 1 absentee.
Ordinance No. 4,22 C. S. introduced by Councilman. Woodson,
seconded by C.ounci,lman Penry,, ,ordering the submission of the proposition
of incurring a bonded debt in the sum o.f $325,000.00) by city, for -
said city, for the ,purpos:e of paying the cost and expense of certain
publi e °improvement in and for said city, to-wit: The acquisition., con-

struction and completion of: a sewer and :sewage disposal system, . includ-
ing pipes, disposal plant pumps, pumping plant, machinery, equipment,
land, easements and other works, property and appliances necessary or
coriven_ient to' make a complete sewer and sewage dispoaal system for
said city, to the qualified voters of said city at' a special election
called for that purpose and ordered to b.e held •on the• 28Th day of
F August., 1934,, came up regularly, and was adopted by 6 affirmative votes,
1 absentee,i. AYES: Councilmen Deiss, Gervasoni, Jones,, McNear,
Penry, and Mayor McFadden. NOES: None ABSENT',:: Couhcilman Woodson.
NEW BUSINESS:
nnual audit:
Mayor McFadden reported that the audit of the books of the
City of Petaluma has been completed.and that copies of said audit are
on "file with the City Clerk,.
Fire Commi Newburgh.addresse.d the Council extending
an invitation to the members to witness a fire drill. and demonstration

o a new cellar nozzle at the D Street,Bridge on August 13th at 7
ofclock. Invitation accept °ed.
UNFINISHED BUSINESS:
Bids or removal of town clock, etc.:
This being the time set for,opening bids for the removal of
the town clock and tower and rest °oration of certain parts of the Masonic
Hall Association Building, the Clerk reported having received three bids
as follows:
Robert Smith $279°.00
H. P. Vogensen 630.00
Petaluma ,Construction 637.55
The bids were referred. to the Buildings, and Grounds Committee; the contract
to be awarded later.
Bids for furnishing material for a sprinkling system:
The Clerk reported having received six bids for the furnishing
of material for a sprinkling system in Hill Pla -z*a, as follows:

The bids were referred to the Park Commission; the contract to be awarded
later.
The icommittees to which were referred the'matters of the Cherry
Valley sewer; the D St. Bridge approaches; the wooden curbs on Upham St..;
and the-securing of necessary deeds for the extension of 6th Street,
were granted further time.
Levee St. Permit:
Resolution #4313 C.S.
introduced by Councilman Deiss, seconded by Councilman McNear, granting
Everett Paulson a permit•, revocable at any time upon 30 days notice, to
use a certain described portion of Levee Street for the loading and
unloading of shells; the consideration to be$''5.00 per month in advance,,
to and including the month of December, 1931, and. thereafter the sum of
$10..00 per month, in advance, if the Council determines upon said sum;
and further granting said Everett Paulson a permit to construct a bin
or bunker upon a certain described. portion of Levee Street, subject,
however, to the right of the Council upon the revocation of said permit,
to require the removal of said bin or bunker, adopted by-6 affirmative
votes, 1 absentee.
Re - Sewage disposal project:
Mayor McFadden reported that the committee on sewage disposal
has been very active interviewing engineers and considering different
types of plants. He also stated that he believed an engineer should
be 'appointed. this week. He called .upon, Professor Hyde, who addressed
the Council on the subject and answered questions asked by Mr. C. B.
Jes-s:en, Councilmen and. others.
