HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes 10/08/1934Qrin October 8. 1934 - 7: 30 P.M. 1, _ : Adjourned meeting of the Council of the City of Petaluma called to order by Mayor McFadden. - ROLL CALL;: rasent Councilmen Deiss, Gervasoni, Jones, McNear., Penry, VV:o.ods'on, and Mayor McFadden. Dr. Peoples, Chairman of the Board of Freeholders, reported that the Charter is not ready for presentation but that it will be filed with the City Clerk before the next regular meeting of the Council. Re - Engineer for proposed sewage di'sposal sys.tem:. Mayor' McFadden asked for a discussion on the appointment of an - engineer for the proposed sewage disposal system. Councilman Penry, Chairman of the Board of Public Works, stated that the Committee had not met as yet to make any recommendation as to any one Engineer. Councilman Woodson stated that he did not consider that there was anything before the Council at this time -, inasmuch as the petit,i,ons recently filed had been ruled out by the City Attorney and the Council itself could not call another election for the bonds unless requested - so to do by proper petitions. Mr. C. B. Jessen., representing the petitioners, stated that it was -his understanding that the Council would appoint an engineer to assist the Board of Public Works in preparing facts and figures in order to have definite information on which to circulate the new petitions. Councilman Woodson pointed out that the City had.already spent $1000.00 to obtain such information and he saw no reason why such report' could not serve'as the basis for any desired information. A lengthy discussion.of the whole matter was had, members of the Council again requesting a list of the names of those persons comprising the "Citizens Committee ". Mr. Jessen explained that the committee had not had ameeting since the Council had requested the names but that as soon as he had authority so to do he "would disclose the names. Resolution #4330 C.S. introduced by ,C Penry, seconded by Councilman Woodson, autho.rizing and directing,the Board of Public Works to consult with the group known as the "'Citizens t Committee" with ,reference to the matters to be inserted in a petition to be circulated, and presented to the City Council for the purpose of giving this Council the right and authority to re- submit the proposition of incurring a bonded indebtedness to construct a sewage disposal system, adopted by 7 affirmative votes. Mr. W, R. Thomas, of Santa Rosa, district head of the P.W.A. addressed the Council explaining the methods of employment of labor on P.W.A,, projects.
