READING OF T JOURNAL: The minutes :of the `last regular meeting 6T January 21st were read and approved as recorded. REPORT OF OFFICERS: e' monthly reports of the Poundman, Police Judge, Auditor, Treasurer, and City G9harfin.ger were read and filed,,. An opinion of the City Attorney 'regarding, the effect o:f. ,grant° ing permits to connect with public sewers, read filed.. REPORT OF 'STANDING C OM1AITTEES : The F -nance ommit e.e sukiinitted- -its report, whereupon Resolution #4356 C.S. introduced by Coun.ci.lman Woodson, seconded by Councilman. Gervasoni, directing the Auditor .to draw warrants (Nos 1611 to 1743 inclusive) against against the various C.i,ty Funds in of claims allowed and approved by the Finance Committee, adopted by 6 affirmative votes, 1 absentee. Chairman of the Gasoline Tax Committee of the League of California Municipalities, reporting progress in the matter of proposed legislation providing half cent to cities from gasoline tax funds, read and filed;: Application from Ben- Gorippo for permiasi.on to. sell. soft drinks at 161 Main Street., read and' f -led; and , Resolizton x#4357 C,:S. introduced by Councilman LVoodson,, seconded by Councilman Penny, granting " said application,, adopted by 6 affirmative votes 1 absentee.. Communication from the Petaluma Chamber of Commerce regarding the widening of fain Street, read, filed, and referred to t he City Attorney for acknowledgment, NEW BUSINESS: Re - New Electroliers for Main Street: The question of the installation of new eleetrol er standards on Main Street, in connection with the widening .improv"empnt, was brought up. and referred to the Light Committee for investi,gati.6n. A di.,scussion of the proposed project of widening Main Street was had and the City Attorney was asked to direct a letter' to Colonel Skeggs of the State Highway Division regarding the contents �of the letter from the Chambe of Commerce. Future projects for Unemployment Relief: Mayor McFadden 'reported on a letter recently received .from the State Planning Board, in which 'a request was made for an outline of work projects for 'the City of Petaluma for a period of years. Su°ggestions for the following pr,o j'ec_ is were "voiced by the members of the Council: Construction of a new fire station, Proper drainage of Mt. View Avenue. Drainage system for Thompson Creek'. Secondary artery through Petaluma. Permanent walls along Petaluma _River. Improvem.en.t of ;Bri Street. Gonstruction.o,f new bridge on Bridge St., Opening o:f. ,Ailate' Street through to Bridge St. Widening of sidewalks and taking off curbs. The Mayor. directed these suggesti passed to the City Engineer for preparation and submission to the State Planning Board. UNFINISHED BUSINESS: °. Re Installments of taxes: Councilman Woods-on, Chairman of the Finance Committee., stated that the Finance Committee had previously - considered thei mattdr of dividing the. collection of city taxes in two installments, the d ate of said collections to harmonize with the "payment of County and State taxes,_ but that the matter had been held up until the clearance of the 1934 -35 taxes.., The Finance Committee was "delegated _ to take the matter up with the City Attorney for the amendment of the present, ordinance and to i- nterview the Assessor and Tax - Collector regarding the same. Auto accident - 3rd bet. I & K Sts. The City reported that on January 30, 1935, an accident had occurred on the West s•i of ; ,Third Street, between I - and K Streets, when a certai Chevrolet 1929 truck, bearning' license #PCE5602 struck a- cement mixer on said. street and than the driver of the truck, �r. VV.- Myers, and his companion Mrs., Yanna Nelson::, had suffered personal injuries and damages to the truck and the goods loaded thereon as a result of said accident. City Attorney Brooks recommended that the case be settled for not more than_$123;25 whereupon Resolution' #4358 C.S.. introduced by Councilman Vjood'son,, seconded by Councilman Penry. resolving that the city of Petaluma compromise the claims for damages alleged to have beer_ suffered by 17V Myers- and Mrs. 'Yan Nels on, arising out of the accident, by the payment to both of them of not to exceed the sum of $123,.25, in full settlement for any and all .claims they may now or should hereafter haveagainst this city for or on account of said accident, and directing the City Clerk to draw a warrant for a sum not to exceed. $123.25, adopted by 6 affirmative votes:, 1 absentee. The Street Committee and- Superintendent.of Streets were given further time in the matter of appointing electrician for the D Street Bridge. The City Attorney reported''tha :t he had been invited to sit with the members of the Merchants,' Committee of the Chamber of Commerce when they .meet to consider various ordinances of the City pertaining to peddling, itinerate merchants, etc. Chief of Police Peters reported that the Finance Committee had authorized the purchase of 2 = 53 carbine; rifles, and other equipment needed for the department. The Chief's : request that he be authorized to send 'for a machine gun was left to the Finance Committee with power to act. Progress was reported in the matter of the purchase of a new automobile for the department. The City Attorney was given further time to arrive at a conclusion in the matter of the title to certain property on Bridge Street claimed by Chris_. Beck. City Attorney Brooks gave an. interesting report of the recent meeting of the North Bay League of California Municipalities at Ukiah.
