He stated that, when the Commit-tee completes its investigation a mass meeting of Petaluma merchants will be held and certain recommendati,ons will be made to�the City Council. Letter from the. League 'o:f California MunicIpalitie stating that the Executive Committee of thei League -is unanimous in opposing the recommendation of Governor Merriam in his budget message that the city and county personal property tax on motor vehicles be eliminated and asking that the, City of Petaluma advise the League by resolution if it approves of the position taken by the League•, read and filed, and Resolution #4360 C.S. Introduced by Councilman an Gervaaoni, seconded by Councilman Deiss, approving the position taken by the'League of California Municipalities opposing the r ec,ommendation. of Governor Merriam, in his budget message that the city and county personal•property tax on motor vehicles be eliminated., and directing the City Clerk to forward a copy of this resolution to the League of California Municipalities, adopted by 7 affirmative votes. Reply from 061onel Skeggs re widening of Main -St:' Letter from Colonel Skeggs of the Division of HighW47s,'advisi.ng that under present conditions, with finances as they e.x* and taking into consideration all the factors, it seems advisable tb proceed with the widening - of Main Street as planned and set forth in the letter,of, Mayor McFadden dated February 6th, and irrespective of what takes place in the future the plan now under conbideration., in his opinion, should be carried through, read, and' filed. The suggestion of Colonel Skeggs that provisi.ons should be made to insure ­an addi.tional north and south traffic artery more or less parallel to I Main Street, was referred to Councilman Penry, representative of the Council on the Planning Commission. Claim of Freeholders.: Res,oluti.on #4364. C.S. introduced by Councilman Woodson, seconded by Councilman Gervasoni, denying the. claim of the Board of Freeholders filed with the City Clerk on January 4 1935; and directing the Auditor to draw warrant #1851 in favor of C. B. Je;ssen, in the sum of .`142.30 in payment of certain expenses incurred as secretary of the Board .of Freeholders, according to claim filed by hit February 15, 1935; adopted by 7 affirmative votes. Linotti claims City Attorney Brooks reported regarding the L,notti claims for damages, outlining the accident as it occurred. He stated that in his opinion there was contributory negligence on the part of the driver of the car involved in the accident and an absence of any-negligence on thepart of the supervisor of the work, but that, if the claimants wish to accept $25.00 each, he would recommend that the claims be settled for that amount. On motion by Councilman McNear, seconded by.Councilman Penry, the.recommendation.of the City Attorney was accepted. So ordered. UNFINISHED "BUSINESS: unerry valley hewer:. Mayor,-McFadden reported having met with Dr. Anderson regarding the severing of Cherry Valley.- He reported that some of the property owners do not wish to make the-improvement because of the financial cost but that; he and.the City Engineer expected to call on each of the property owners shortly ndthe hope of securing their agreement to the work, which is_a public ne,c.essity. The Committee was granted further time. Collection of taxes in two installments: The Finance Committee asked for and were granted further time in the matter of; the proposed ordinance to provide for two installments of city tax.:e a. The Street-Committee reported that they had not as yet appointed an electrician for the D Street Bridge. The Light Committee was granted further time in "the matter of new electroliers for Main Street. Mayor McFadden reported having sent in to the State Planning Board an out-liie of twelve suggested pro jests for future work in Petaluma. Beck, Jr. and deliver the same to him upon the executi.orr and acceptance of said deed, adopted by 7 affirmative votes. ,: Mayor ;McFadde reported. that: the claim. of W. Meyers and NIrs. Yanna fiTelson for damages had been settled: by the City Attorney -for the sum of :$105 ..75. He ctompl mented Attorney Brooks for his good work in the settlement of ' this claim. The matter of approving the plans and specifications for* the widening-of Main -Street was referred to the Street Committee,., City Engineer Gonzalez reporting that the plans 'would be finished immediately.' The question of blockading the section of. ' Third Street now under repair was brought up by Mayor McFadden, Councilman Gerva:soni reported that such-repair work is now covered by insurance. � Mayor McFadden and. City 'Engineer Gonzalez gave an interesting report of the .pro;gres,s on the Sixth , Street Extension stating that todat'e more than 1800 ,yards had been excavated..
