ROLL CALL: Prressen.t: Councilmen Deiss, Gervaaoni, Jones, McNear, Penry, Woodson, and Mayor McFadden. REPORTS OF OFFIC ERS The C lerk reported having been notified by the Division of Highways that the tentative apportionment from the gas tax fund to the City of Petaluma for the biennium beginning July 1, 1935, and ending June 30, 1937, is $11;130.00 with an additional $9,739.00 if another I cent is added by pending 'legislation. REPORTS, OF STANDING COMMITTEES: The Finance Committee submitted its report, whereupon Resolution #4371 C.S. introduced. by Councilman Woodson, seconded by Councilman Mc Near, directing tIhe Auditor to- draw warrants (Nos. 1986 to 2099 inclusive) against the various City Funds in. payment of claims allowed and approved by the Finance Committee, adopted. by`7 affirmative votes. PETITIO AND COMMUNI Application. "of�rs. Roth..for permission to sell soft drinks at 402 Third Street, read and filed, and Resolution #4372 C.S. introduced by Councilman Woodson., seconded. by Councilman Gervasoni, grant- ing said application, adopted. by 7 affirmative votes. Foley & Burk: Application of Foley & Burk Combined Shows for permission to exhibit in Petaluma from May 13th to 18th, read. and filed, and Resolution #4373 C.S. introduced by Councilman Gervasoni, seconded by Councilman Jones, granting said application, upon payment of the'license_ fee therefor, adopted by 7 affirmative votes. Application of R. M. Cayla for permission to connect with the City Sewer at the North City Limits., read and filed,, and Resolution #4374'C.S. introduced by Councilman' Deiss, s by Councilman Penry, granting sa:i.d application =, upon payment of the established rate of rental therefor, adopted by 7 affirmative' votes. Letters on behalf of .Mus Commission: Letters from the Reta.luma Lions Club; Petaluma Post No: 28, American Legion; Petaluma Post No. 1929 Veterans of Foreign tAlar.s; Sonoma County Building Trades Council.; and the 20 -30 Club of Petaluma, on behalf of the Petaluma Municipal Band.. read, filed, and later brought up under the head of New -Business. Re- Muir Woods Toll Road- Communication from Marvelous Marin, Inc. asking the Council to adopt a resolution' supporting the acquiring 'by the State of the Muir Woods Toll Road, read and. filed_, and Resolution -4 C. S. introduced by Councilman: Jones, seconded by Councilman Deiss, urging the legisl body of the State of California to take the necessary steps to.have the Muir Woods Toll Road taken into the State highway system, and. parti:dularly to support Assembly Bill_ 2080 by Assemblyman Scudder, adopted by 7 affirmative votes Letter from the California Municipal Utilities Association re the support of pending legislation authorizing; the issuance anal sale of revenue bonds by municipalities in accordance with Presldent°Roosevelt suggestion, -read, filed, and referred to the City Attorney. Letter from the Midtown Association asking support of certain bills s now before the legislature asking that a portion of gasoline tax funds be-used for the safety lighting of highways, read and filed.. The Clerk was directed to ask the advice of the League of California Municipalities regarding these bills. Re gas tax diversion: Letter from t?,i;e California Hi.F iway he,gis',lative Committee asking the Council to oppose Assembly Bill #187 regarding the diversion of gas 520 (.1110` tax funds, read. and filed, and Resolution #4376 C—S. introduced by Councilman. Jones., seconded by Councilman Woodson, opposing; any diversion of funds derived, from taxation of gasoline by the State of California for an.y.purpose other than stree and high- ways, and directing the Clerk to send copies of said: resolution to Assemblyman Scudder and Senator Slater, adopted by 7 affirmative votes. NEW BUSINESS: e - usi.c Fund. appropriation: The :letters received .from various organizations asking the continued financi °a.l support of. the Petaluma Municipal Band was discussed,, Councilman Woodson moved, seconded by Councilman Penry, that the Council do not reconsid.er.the matter of financing the Petaluma" Municipal Band., because of the poor condition of the city finances, and that these organizations be so informed by the City Clerk.. Councilman "Deiss proposed an amendment to the motion that 'the Council take steps to place the question of appropriating money to the Music Fund on ballot at the next general election, which amendment to the motion was lost by lack of a second, whereupon the motion as proposed by Councilman Woodson was put and'carried.by 6 affirmative votes, l negative vote, Councilman. Deis's. voting in the negative. Councilman Jones was asked to investigate the matter of needed repair to the city gasoline tank. Mayor McFadden reported that he had been informed that-numerous barber pole signs' had. been erected in conflict with. the ordinance covering same and asked tkat the Chief of Police investi 'Mayor McFadden. also asked that the. awning recently eracte,d by the Hotel Petaluma be inve�stigated as to its conformance with the city ordinances. UNFINISHED BUS INESS.: Bridge it1e City Brooks reported that the title to the hand being purchased from Chris Beck, Jr.. is being cleared and that fences on the property may be moved within a few days. Collection of taxes in tyro .installments : Councilman Woodson reported progress in the matter of the _futu:re collection of taxes in two installments. ,City Attorney Brooks reported that a demurrer had been filed in. the action-brought by Grace Studdert against the City, and had been set for hearing' on Friday of this week. Widening of Main & 3rd S'treets': The request of Mrs. ,,John Mc'Near that the w1deni;ng .o,f Main Street be terminated.at,a point so as not to include her propert=y was brought up by City Engineer Gon.zale and discussed. It was pointed out approximately that this would result in a saving a � . 500.., 00 on the �' Pp y ��p improvement anal that it was, useless, to carry said improvement down as far as originally planned..
