Regular meeting of the Council of the City of Petaluma called to
order by Mayor McFadden.
ROLL CALL:

and Mayor McFadden..
READING OF THE JOURNAL:
The minutes of" the - meetings of April 15., 22, 23, 26, And 30, were
read and approved as,r6corded,.
REPORTS 'OF OFFICERS t
The mohtF17 reports of the Poundman Roli.ce :Judge, Wharfinger,.
Garbage Inspector,. Auditor and Treasurer, were read and filed,
The Clerk reported the filing of Affidavit of Publication' of
Charter Amendment 'No. 19 and the Affidavit of Publication of Notice to
Bidders re copper wire
REPORTS. OF STANDING COMMITTEES:
The, Finance C'orijinittee, submitted its report, whereupon
Resolution #4386 C.S
introdue'ed. by Councilman Gervasoni, seconded by Gounc,11-man Wood's
directing the Auditor to draw warrants Nos. 2335 to 2509 inclusive against
the various City Funds in payment of claims allowed and approved by the
Finance- committee,adopted by 7 affirmative votes..
' AND COMMUNICATIONS:
Communi-cation 'fro . 0 American Legion,, Petaluma Post. No. 28,
asking that the Council name one representative to meet with them for
the purpose of mapping plans for the annual Sonoma County Armistice Day
Celebration
read and filed. Mayor McFadden appointed Councilman Penry
as such representative.,
Letter from the .Petaluma Chamber of Commerce, advising that the
Merchant's Committee of the Petaluma Chamber of Commerce at their regular
meeting held Monday, A-pril 22nd, unanimously went on record as being
opposed to any ordinance which would have for its purpos the levying of.
a general business tax, read. and filed..
. Card from the United Spanish War Veterans, inviting the Council
to participate In the coming Temorlal Day Celebration, read and filed.
ADOPTION OF` ORDINANCES:
Ordinance No. 431 C.3,. introduced, by Councilman likfoodson, seconded
by CouncIlman Jones, providing. for the holding of a General Muilicipal
Election in the City of Petaluma, and specifying the purposes for which
said election is held to --wit: The election of certain .c ity officers•,
and - the sub of a proposition for the amendment of the City Charter
by Adding a new article thereto entitled ."Charter Amendment No. 19 provid-
ing for the creation and maintenance of a Music Commission, came up
regularly And was adopted by 7affirmative votes.
NEW BUSINESS
'Bids - copper wire :.
This being the time set for opening bids for the furnishing of
approximately '3000 feet of copper wire, the Clerk reported having received-
5 bids which were opened and read and taken under advisement until the
adjourned meeting of the Council to be held on May '7th.
Memorial Day donation:
Mr.. A. W., Kerrigan addres the Council on behalf of the
Memorial Day �Celebration, inviting the members of the City Council to
attend the exercises., and requesting the usual donation, whereupon
Resolution #4387 C'.,S.
introduced by Councilman TficNear, seconded �by Councilman Gerva8oni
appropriating the sum of $50.00 to the Memorial Day Celebration.,fdr
year 193'5, and directing the Auditor to draw a warrant in said sum-
payable, to the order 'of the United Spanish American War Veterans,- adopted
by 7' affirmative votes...

The Committee appointed re Junior Traffic Patrol reported progress.
and 'were - 'granted further time.
Mayor McFadden reported that the entire Council 'had met and personally,
viewed the intersection of Sixth Street and Mt View Avenue and. that it was
the consensus of'op;inion that a reverse gutter be placed' there and if
it proved to be unsatisfactory to later install_ -a "cu vent or bridge.
The Board of Public 'Works was granted further time re the proposed
radio ordinance.
'Main St. Widening:
'Mayor McFadden advised that there had been some difficulty between
the 'State Engineer and the SERA office regarding the labor on Main
Street widening pr,oiject. I3e asked that the 'Counc .l .carefull•y watch
the progress of this project so that before starting Project #3, it
could be correctly determined whether or riot i't should. ba undertaken
as another SERA project or done by private contract. '
Chief Peters author , ted" to employ another officer:
Chief of Police teters addressed the Council stating that since
placing an officer on duty all nig ht the department- has been" compelled to
operate without a traffic officer and that the need for such an. officer
is very great,. He asked that the Council consider the matter
seriously. A disicussion was had and on motion by Councilman McNear,
seconded by Councilman Woodson, the Chief was :au to employ a
special officer at the sum of $130.00 per month., and to select from the
department an officer to be used as Traf.f.ic. Officer. , So ordered.
ADJOURDTMENT

carried the meeting adjourned.
