August 19, 1935.
Regular meeting-of the Council of the City. of Petaluma called to order
by Mayor McFadden.
ROLL CALL:
resent: Councilmen.Deiss., Ger.vasoni, Ingerson,; Myers, Penry, Woodson,
and Mayor McFadden.
READING OF THE ,JOURNAL:
The minutes of e last regular meeting of August 5th were read and
approved as recorded.
REPORTS OF OFFICERS:

City Attorney Brooks.submitt.ed a writt.en.opinion relative to appoint-
ments to the Music Commission which.opinion. was read and filed. The
appointing of members to the Music Commission was deferred until the next
regular meeting, of the. Council.
Opinion of Attorney re appropriation of jfunds to American.. Legion:
The City Attorney submitted an opinion on the que.stion.of the city's
right to appropriate funds for use by the Armistice Day Committee of the
American.Legion in connection with the-celebration of Armistice Day here.
The opinion was read and filed..arid the. Clerk directed to notify the
American Legion of the decision of..the City Attorney.
REPORTS OF STANDING COMMITTEES:

introduced by Councilman Gervasoni, seconded by'Councilman Woodson,
directing the Auditor, to draw warrants_..(Nos. 459 to 578 inclusive)
against the various city. funds in .payment of claims. allovwed and approved
by the Finance-Committee, adopted by 7 affirmative votes.

NEW BUSINESS:
Mayor cFadden appointed Counci.lmen,Penry, Myers, and Gervasoni, to
draft a resolution of sympathy to Mrs. Newburgh in the death of Fire
Commissioner Arthur S. Newburgh.
Mayor McFadden called the attention of the Council to the crowded
condition of the Clerkts office caused by the meeting of various organiza-
tions on the second floor of the city hall and he-.suggested that a vacant
room on the third_floor be fitt.ed.up.at.nominal .expense for the holding
of overflow meetings ,:whereupon on motion by.Councilman Woodson, seconded
by Councilman Penry, the Buildings and Grounds Committee was empowered to
fit up the unoccupied room on the third, floor of the City Hall for the use
of organizations the Council Room is occupied. So ordered.
It was reported that all 'SERA work in the city has been stopped in
accordance with a ,government order, except the completion.of work heretofor
started on the widening of Main Street. Mayor McFadden reported that
work - relief projects will be resumed after September 25th under the WPA.

On motion by Councilman Woodson, seconded by Councilman Penry, the
Ci Attorney was,instructed to draft.an ordinance to cover an appropriat-
ion not to exceed.. $500:.00 for. furthering the activities of the county -wide
SERA Playground Project... So or.dere.d. This motion was made following
the report of Councilman Woodson, Chairman of the Finance Committee,
who had inv6stigated.the matter and had talked wi.th County Probation
Officer Wm. Schulte, who very highly recommended the project. Councilman
Woodson also reported that the project had the support of every community
in.Sonoma County.
The Garbage Committee asked for and were granted further time in the
matter of the lease of the SEWER FARM to the Royal Tallow and Soap Co.

City Attorney Brooks reported having. received.. a response from
the Federal Communications Commission requesting that they be
furnished with a certified copy of the .articles. of incorporation
of the City of Petaluma.. He stated that he would forward a.-copy
of the City Charter to them. In this connection Councilman
Ingerson was appointed a Committee of•.one'•to secure as many ,copies
of the City Charter as possible.
Re - purchase of motorcycle for Traffic Officer:
A discussion of the purchase of a new motorcycle for the city
traffic officer was had and the Chief of Police'was requested to
submit his choice of the make to the City Attorney in order that
an ordinance might be-prepared appro .priating.the,necessary,funds
and directing the Clerk to advertise for bids.
