November 18, 1935.
Regular meeting of the Council of the City of Petaluma called to
order by Mayor McFadden.
ROLL CALL:
Present: Councilmen Deiss, Gervasoni, Ingerson, Myers, Penry,
Woodson, and Mayor McFadden.
READING OF THE JOURNAL:
The minutes of the last regular meeting,of November 4th were read
and approved as recorded.
REPORTS OF STANDING COMMITTEES:
The Finance omm tee su: mitted its'report, whereupon
Resolution #4454.C. S.
introduced by Councilman-.Gervasoni, seconded by Counci;lman,Woo.dson, direct-
ing the Auditor to draw warrants (Nos.'1196 to 1315 inclusive) against
the various City Funds in payment of claims allowed and,approved by the
Finance Committee, adopted by 7 affirmative votes.
PETITIONS AND COMMUNICATIONS:
etters from Petaluma range No. 23 Patrons of Husbandry; Petaluma
Aerie No. 333 F. 0. E.; and. Petaluma Camp No. 63, United Spanish.War
Veterans, expressing their approval of the proposed armory for the City
of- Petaluma, read and filed.
Letter from the Petaluma Chamber of Commerce, suggesting the widen-
ing of Kentucky Street from B Street to Washington Street; Washington
Street from the Washington Bridge to Howard Street; .and Western
Avenue from brain Street Howard Street, read and filed.
Communication from the Redwood Empire Association asking that the
City Council urge Governor Merriam to personally take charge 'of securing
the necessary finances for-the immediate construction of the Waldo Approach
to the Golden Gate Bridge and to make available sufficient state funds
for said purpose; and. to appoint a highway commissioner from the North.bay
Redwood Empire to succeed Ray Ingles read and filed. Later brought up
under the head of neiv business and on motion by Councilman Woodson,
seconded by Councilman Myers, the Mayor was authorized to communicate with
Governor hferriam along the-lines outlined in the letter of the Redwood
Empire Association. Motion carried and so ordered.

Ordinance No. 444 C. S. introduced by Councilman Woodson, seconded
by Councilm_an.Gervasoni, appropriating the sum of not to exceed $00.00
for the use of the Music Commission during the balance of the fiscal
year ending June 30, 1936, for the education and instruction of the
Municipal Band, was read., approved by'the City Attorney, and
Resolution #4455 C.S.
introduced by Councilman Woodson, seconded by Councilman Gervasoni,
providing for the posting of said ordinance, adopted by 7 affirmative
votes.
Reduction of Tobacco License:
Ordinance No. 445 C.. S. introduced by Councilman Gervasoni, seconded
by Councilman Deiss, amending Section 24 of Ordinance No. 239 C. S. by
providing for an annual license tax of $25.00 for every person, firm or
corporation who deals in., sells or offers for sale cigars, cigarettes or
tobacco, was read, approved by the City Attorney, and
Resolution #4456 C.S.
introduced by Councilman Gervasoni, seconded by Councilman Woodson, pro-
viding for the posting of said ordinance, adopted by 7 affirmative votes.

Appoi.n ment of Gray & Carpenter as Insurance Brokers 1935 and 1936.
Resolution #4457 C.S.
introduced by Councilman Gervasoni, seconded by Councilman Woodson, grant-
ing the firm and co- partnership of.Gray & Carpenter all of the business
of securing, placing, and providing insurance of every kind for the years
1935 and 1936, adopted by 7 affirmative votes.
UNFINISHED BUSINESS:
Proposal to remove scrap iron from City Dumps rejected:
On motion by Councilman Woodson., sdconded by Councilman Penry,
the proposal of Frederick Ray, Jr. to remove scrap iron and tin
from the City Dumps was rejected. Motion carried and so ordered.

The Committee appointed to recommend projects for the improvement
of. major city streets, said improvements to paid for out of the 4
cent gasoline tak.fund','was granted further time.
Re - Construction of Armory:
Captain John Hopkins addressed the Council reporting on a recent
meeting of the committees from the Chamber of G,on.nerce and. the City
Council, stating that it had been the consensus of , opinion that in
order to stimulate interrest in Company M that a social gathering'be
held under the sponsorship of the City of Petaluma and Company M.,
and that such an affair- be held sometime between Thanksgiving and
Christmas. Captain Hopkins also asked that the City direct letters
to the Governor, the Adjutant General, Congressman Lea, Senator Slater,
and Assemblyman Scudder asking their support of the proposed armory
project. The entire matter was left in. the hands of the committee
previously appointed by Mayor McFadden.
Permit to Royal Tallow & Soup Co. to use,City Sewer:

introduced by Councilman Myers, seconded by Councilman Woodson, directing
teat the Mayor and City Clerk execute and seal the agreement entitled,
"Agreement for Use of City Sewer ", dat'ed the 18th day of November, e d.9
wherein the City of Petaluma grants permission to the Royal Tallow &
Soap Company to construct a sewer along the southerly side of Wilson
Street and connect the same with the storm sewer of this city approximatel;
428 feet west of the 'Easterly boundary of the city, adopted by 7 affirm
ative votes.
The Street Conmittee reported that the W ashington street Bridge
had been repaired satisfactorily and is now in good condition.
The City Attorney reported that he had received a letter from the
Pacific Tele.& Te1e Go. stating that they were going to call on the
City Engineer within the'next two weeks to discuss,the matter of,po.le
lines and that they also stated that they did not leant to go ahead with
the i the City is ready to start its part of it.
