All members present, Councilman Healey. Mayor Horwege presiding. READING OF JOURNAL. IJtinutes.of a regular meeting of November- I.9th were read and approved ae recgrded. REPORT OF OFFICERS. .The. following reports of officers were read, received and placed on file: The report of Wharfinger for month of October. The report of Poundmaster for month of November. The :report of-Police Judge for month of November. The City Attorney Formally Notified the. Council that the applica- tion of the Pacific Gas and Electric Co. for a raise in rates in this di,st'rict,•had, by order of the Railroad.Commission, had been . indefinitely postponed. REPORT OF STANDING • CbMMI TTEE . On Finance. 9 The report of the finance Committee was read and same recommended for payment by the following resolution.: RES 'OLUTION NO.2I6I C. S. Introduced by Stradling,, by McCargar. Directin'..the Auditor to draw warrants in payment of the several claims as submitted by the Finance Committee. Adopted by'six affirmative votes, one absent. Chairman McCargar of the Building and Grounds Committee'stated that mr. Webber of the P. G. & E. Co. had agreed to Install a guaranteed tapper for the town clock for the sum of $125. The Building and Grounds' Committee were authorized to enter into an agreement for the installa- tion of same. PETITONS AND COTV2j1UNI.CATIONS. Mr. Wayne appeared before the Council and-asked for a reduction in his moving picture license. After discussion the matter was laid on the table NEW BUSINESS. RESOLUTION. 140. .2I 62 . 1 I Introduced by McCargar, seconded by Allen. Directing the Assessor to change the assessed value upon lots 387 and 388 to $L25 per front foot and reduce the value of -the improvements from §4510 to $4460 0'and a rebate be-allowed the owners. JOAV NEW BUSINES A committe of bus'ines.s men, composed of Messers. Zartman, Veale and. Olmsted appeared before the Council and asked that the necessary steps be taken to Main,stree.t and improve it in a manner similar to- xentucky street. They did not urge immediate' action owing to the winter seasori.; , but asked that steps be. taken so t he work can be done in the early-'spring. on mot.ion,by Mc.Ca.rgar, seconded by-Young, the City Engineer was directed to make an investigation and report back just what will be necessary, including the estimated cost etc. The proposed improvement to be made on both sides of Main street from Mary street to B street. Councilman McCS.rgar -made7. protest- a�a.inst the burning of rubbish on the old dumps on upper Main street, claiming that it was a nuisance, `to the residents owing to the smoke and smell. Matter discussed but no action taken. Mme 'Schluter and E. 1 M. Evans appeared before the Council., rela- tive to the relief of an over flowed sewer at trest and Keokuk streets.. The matter of condemning aright of way was discussed. Finally the - ma,tter'was referred to the 'Street-Committee and City Attorney.to investigate amd report back:. the matter of storing the street machinery for the winter months was again taken up. It was decided; if•it could be done, to place the .machinery in the unflo.ored portion of the foundry .In the matter of electric lights on Kentucky street, the Mayor stated that the Pacific Gas & Electric Co. had refused to tem- porary wires in the electr-ioli,er conduits. The widening of Water street from Washington street to Western Avenue :and Wester Avenue betwe6n street and river came up for discussion. The Council decided that no action 'be taken at. the pres- ent -time - AD JOUR18 EN T . On duly made and seconded the Council adjourned until Monday, Dec. I'T, I9I7.
