HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution 98-142 07/20/1998 Resolution No. sa-~4z N.C.S. of the City of Petaluma, California CALLING AND GIVING NOTICE OF A SPECIAL MUNICIPAL ELECTION TO BE HELD ON TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 3, 1998, FOR SUBMITTAL OF A MEASURE ON COUNCIL COMPENSATION WHEREAS, the City Council of Petaluma, California, desires to submit to the voters at a Special Election a proposed Charter Amendment on Council Compensation and, WHEREAS, under the provisions of the City of Petaluma Charter and the laws of the State of California, a Special Municipal election shall be held on Tuesday, November 3, 1998, and, WHEREAS, pursuant to authority provided by Article XI of the Constitution, Title 4, Division 2, Chapter 3 of the Government Code and Division 9; Chapter 3; Article 3 of the Elections Code of the State of California, the City Council of the City of Petaluma desires to submit to the voters a measure on Council Compensation; and, NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, ORDERED, AND DECLARED AS FOLLOWS: 1. Pursuant to the requirements of the State of California and the Petaluma City Charter, there is called and ordered to be held in the City of Petaluma, California, on Tuesday, November 3, 1998, a Special Municipal election for the purpose of submitting a measure to the voters regarding Council Compensation; and, 2. Pursuant to the requirements of the State of California and the Petaluma City Charter, there shall be a Special election on Tuesday, November 3, 1998, at which election the following question shall be submitted to the voters: Compensation for Councilmembers and Mayor. Yes Shall there be an amendment to Petaluma City Charter Section 19 to become effective immediately and read: No "Compensation. The Councilmembers shall each receive compensation of $500 a month [currently $5 a meeting with a maximum of $20 a month]. The Mayor shall receive compensation of $750 a month [currently $10 a meetin with a maximum of $40 a month xesotution No. 98-142 N.c.s. Page 1 of 2 3. The ballots to be used at the election shall be in the form and content as required by law; and, 4. The City Clerk is authorized, instructed and directed to procure and furnish any and all official ballots, notices, printed matter and all supplies,. equipment and paraphernalia that may be necessary in order to property and lawfully conduct the election; and, 5. The polls for the election shall be open at seven o'clock a.m. of the day of the election and shall remain open continuously from that time until eight o'clock p.m. of the same day when the polls shall be closed, except as provided in Section 14401 of the Elections Code of the State of California; and, 6. That in all particulars not recited in this resolution, the election shall be held and conducted as provided by law for holding municipal elections; and, 7. That the notice of the time and place of holding the election is given and the City Clerk is authorized instructed and. directed to give further or additional notice of the election, in time, form and manner as required bylaw. 8. The City Council finds that the proposed ballot measure is hereby approved for submittal to the voters of the City of Petaluma. Under the power and authority rnnferred upon this Council bytbe Charter of said City.
