HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution 98-143 07/20/1998 I Resolution No. 98-143 N.C.S. of the City of Petaluma, California REQUESTING THE BOARD OF SUPERVLSORS TO CONSOLIDATE A SPECIAL MUNICIPAL ELECTION ON A MEASURE RELATING TO COUNCIL COMPENSATION ON NOVEMBER 3, 1998, .WITH THE STATEWIDE GENERAL ELECTION WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Petaluma has called a Special Municipal Election to be held on November 3, 1998, for the purpose of submitting measure on Council Compensation; and WHEREAS, it is desirable that the Special Municipal Election be consolidated with the Statewide General Election to be held on the same date and that within the City the precincts, polling places and election officers of the elections be the same, and that the Election Department of the County of Sonoma canvass the returns of the Special Municipal Election, and that the election be held in all respects as if there were only one election: NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, ORDERED, AND DECLARED AS FOLLOWS: 1. Pursuant to the Petaluma City Charter and Requirements of Election Code Section 10403, the Board of Supervisors of the County of Sonoma is hereby requested to consent and. agree to the consolidation of a Special Municipal Election with the Statewide Primary election on Tuesday, November 3, 1998, for the purpose of submitting a measure on Council Compensation. 2. The question shall read as follows: Compensation for Councilmembers and Mayor: Yes Shall there be an amendment to Petaluma City Charter Section 19 to become effective immediately and read: No "Compensation. The Councilmembers shall each receive compensation of $500 a month [curcently $5 a meeting with a maximum of $20 a month]. The Mayor shall receive compensation of $750 a month [curcently $10 a meetin with a maximum of $40 a month Aesomeon xo. 98-143 N.cs. Page 1 of 2 3. The County Election Department is authorized to canvass the returns of the Special Municipal Election. The election shall be held in all respects as if there were only one election, and only one form of ballot shall be used. 4. The Board of Supervisors is requested to issue instructions to the County Election Department to take any and all steps necessary for the holding of the consolidated election. 5. The City of Petaluma recognizes that additional costs may be incurred by the County by reason of this consolidation and agrees to reimburse the County for such costs. 6. The County Election Department is requested to determine the cost of processing Absentee Ballots for this election and is further requested to report said cost to the City Clerk of the City of Petaluma at the earliest possible time following the election. 7. The City Clerk shall file a certified copy of this resolution with the Board of Supervisors and with the County Election Department. Under the power and authority rnnferted upon this Council by the Charter of said City.
