ROLL CALL: Clounc- - lmen present; Allen, Batchelor, Farrell, McCarger, Riewerts, Van Bebber and Mayor Sales. RE ADING OF THE JO'URNAZ: The minutes of the regular meeting of May'19th and the adjourn- ed meeting of May 22nd were read and approved as recorded. REPORTS OF CITY OFFICERS: 'The mon hly` reports of the Auditor, Treasurer, Poundmaster and City Wharfinger were read and moiled. REPORTS_ OF.- STANDING 'CO I'811TTEE3 The Finance Committee_ rendered its report of numerous claims against the City and Councilman McCargar introduced and Councilman.Allen seconded the-following resolution, to -wit: Resolution #29;35 C.S. BE. IT RESOLVED THAT the Auditor be and he is hereby directed to draw warrants against the various City Funds in payment of claims-allowed and approved by the Finance Committee, adopted by 7 affirmative votes. The Buildings and Grounds Committee reported that the insurance on th:e_. Hock Crusher had been taken dare: of. Filed. The Street Committee reported on the matter of the proposed improve- ment of Edith and Madison Streets and the City Engineer was directed to prepare plans and specifications for the improvement of Edith Street; one ,blo_ck on Madison Street to be_ included if the work can be 'legally done. Report and log from the Board of Fire Underwriters in re recent test of the new pumper read and filed. Communication from the New Hotel Petaluma asking per- missio:a to install an electric sign across Main Street at Washington, read and filed. Letter was also read from the New Hotel Petaluma thanking the City Council for the installation of electroliers around the,hotel. Filed. ADOPTION OF ORDINANCES Ordinance into, 249 C.S. introduced by Councilman MbOargar, seconded by Councilman Van Bebber, licensing slot machines came up for final adoption, and was defeated by the following vot,e.: Ayes Allen, McCargar, Van Bebber and lWayor Sales; Noes Batchelor, Farrell and Rie: *ferts. Ordinance No. 252 C.S. introduced. by, Councilman Farrell,. seconded by Councilman Van Bebber, prohibiting the keeping of bees, approved by the City.Attorney was adopted by the following vote; Ayes, Allen, Batchelor, Farre_11, I}ldcCargar and idayor Sales; '.Noe Ri ewert s and Van Bebber. Ordinance No. 253 C.S. introduced by Councilman McCargar, seconded by .Councilman Farrell providing for the iss =uance and redemption of bonds of..,.the,.. Ci.t.y of 'Petaluma, approved byt�the City Attorney and adopted by the foilo vote; Ayes, Allen, Batchelor, Farrell, McCargar, Iiieverts, Van Bebber and _!dayor Sales. ti I NEV 1 BUSINESS The Commissioners.for the opening of G Street presented deed for the right of way through G Street and - reported same all paid for, where - upon a vote of thanks was tetdered- the Commission Tor the Splendid tiTaay in which they carried out this work. DIr. Barker of the Motel Petaluma addressed the Council asking permission to _install an electric sigh across Main Street and it was regularly moved and seconded that the Buildings and Grounds Committee and the City Atto ° rney meet z7 Mr. Barker to investigate ways and means of arranging for the sign. Councilman Allen was excused from the meeting at this point. Resolution #29V C.S. introduced by Councilman McCargar, seconded_by Councilman Allen, directing the Auditor to draw a warrant in favor of the United Spanish War Veterans in the sum of $35.00, adopted by 6 affirmative votes, 1 absentee Resolution #2'938 C.S. introduced by Councilman Batchelor, seconded by Councilman McCargar, appointing Martin-Backer police officer of the City of Petaluma, adopted by 6 affirmative votes, 1 absentee. Resolution 4240 Co-S. introduced by Councilman Farrell, seconded by Councilman Van Bebber, directing the Auditor to draw a warrant in favor of Frank J. Burke in the sum of $125.00 as extra compensation during his.term of office as City tt6rn.eyj, adopted by 6 affirmative votes, 1 absentee. Resolution C.S. introduced, by Councilman Van Bebber,- seconded by Councilman Batchelor, grantin& Wm. Sylvia an extension of 30 days time on Broadway Street ,provided that the,surities on his bond first file a waiver to such extension, adopted by 6 affirmative votes, l.absentee. Resolution29. "C.,S. introduced by Councilman Riewerts, seconded by Councilman McCargar. directing the Clerk to advertise for bids for the official advertising for the City of Petaluma, adopted by 6 affirmative votes, 1 absentee. Resolution : # 2940_ C.S. introdizc'ed by Councilman Farrell, seconded by Councilman Batchelor, resole - ing that"he City of Petaluma Fake over and maintain the gas chamber con- structed;for the destruction of animals, dedicated to the City by the Humane Society and thanking the Society,for said dedication, adopted by 6 affirmative votes, 1 absentee. Re.s.olution 7204 C.S. introducied by Councilman Farrell, seconded by Councilman Van Bebber,_ resole- ing that! the C=ity of Petaluma is opposed to the granting of a franchise to the West Coast Transit'Co. and directing. that a copy of said resolution be sent to 'the Railroad Commission. of the State of California, adopted by affirmatilve votes, 1 absentee. Resolution294SC.S. introduced by Councilman Batchelor, seconded by Councilman McCargar, allow - ing the election olfficers at the Special Election held May 20th, 1924, the sum Of $6.00 each and the sum.of 1n5.00 for each polling place as rental therefor' and directing the Auditor to draw warrants in payment thereof, adopted by 6 affirmative votes, 1 absentee. The .City Clerk was directed to advertise the sale of fire bonds. The Street Superintendent was directed to take the nac.essary steps 'or, the ;removal of dry grass and weeds from sidewalks, vacant lots, etc. It as regularly moved and seconded that the action of the City Engineer in granting was sixty ,days ..extension .o time. to proper.ty__._owners in which to build Sidewalks.. is approved.._..
