ROLL CALL: Councilmen present; Allen:, Farrell, Button, Riewerts, Van Bebber and Mayor Sales. Absent; Councilman Batchelor. READING OF THE JOURNAL: The minutes of the last regular meeting of July 21st; the adjourn- ed.meet ng of July 24th and the Special meeting of August 1st were read and approved as recorded. REPORTS OF CITY OFFICERS: The Clerk "reported the filing of Affidavits of Publication re Ordinance No. 257; Notice Inviting Sealed Proposals Edith Street; Notice to Bidders re hose wagon and ladder truck and Affidavit of Posting of Plans Specifications Edith Street;. also the filing of the Official Bond of Homer W. Wood as proprietor of the Petaluma Daily Courier. The monthly reports of the Auditor and Treasurer and the City Wharfinger were 'read and filed. The City Engineer and Supt. of Streets reported the completion of the sewer. on G Street. Filed. REPORT'S OF STANDING ",C'OMPv1I:T:TEES The :'Finance, Cb=ittee rendered its report of numerous claims against the City and Councilman Van Bebber introduced and Councilman Allen seconded the following resolution: Resolution #2985 C.S. BE.IT RESOLVED THAT the-Auditor be and she is hereby directed to draw Warrants against the various City Funds: in payment of claims allowed and approved by the Finance Committee. Adopted by 6 affirmative votes; 1 absentee:. Councilman Button of the Special Committee appointed to investigate conditions at the poultry killing stations reported the sanitary conditions greatly improved and that there was no action to be taken at the present time but. that the stations would be closely watched. Filed. Cguncilrian Riewerts reported no definite action taken in regard to pa3nt;ing the roof of the shoe .factory as the committee is still investigat- ing °prices and materials. He also reported that the trees at the Sewer Farm watering and that Mr. Noriel would be willing to take care of them for ;5.00 per` month. Councilman Van. Bebber reported that the Board of Fire Commissioners had deci`de'd not to install electric signals on the bridges to indicate at the fire station when the bridges are open because of the high cost but suggested the use of telephones instead. The Building and Grounds Committee reported on the remodeling of the lower floor of the City Hall and were directed to present plans and specifications -for same at - the - next meeting. ADOPTION OF ORDINANCES: Ordinance Jo. 257 G.S. entitled ".An Ordinance regulating awnings and signs in the City of Petaluma" came up regularly and was adopted by the following•vote:•Ayes: Councilmen Allen, Button,, Farrell, Riewerts, Van Bebber and Mayor Sales. Noes; None; Absent, Uouncilman Batchelor. NEW BUSINESS: Bids re Edith Street.. This being the time set for opening bids on Edith Street the Clerk reported having received one bid from R. Woods and proceeded to open and read said 'bid, whereupon Resolution of Award ', 2986 C..S introduced by Councilman Allen, seconded by Councilman Button, awarding 5 the . contract fo.r. the . improvement of Edith Street to R. Woods, adopted by G affirmative_ votes 1 absentee. .Hose flagon .4 Ladder Truck. The matter of awarding the contract for the hose wagon and ladder truck was discussed at length and Resolution 7 # - 2987 0.3. was introduced by Councilman Farrell., seconded by Councilman Button, awarding the contract for one hose wagon to the American La France Fire Engine Company and was defeated by thei'following vote: Ayes; Farrell &o Button; Noes; Allen, Riewerts, Van Bebber and Mayor Sales; Absent Batchelor -. Resolution #2988 C.S. introduced by Councilman Farrell., seconded by Councilman Button, awarding the contract for one 'ladder truck to the American La France Fire Engine Company was defeated by the following vote: Ayes; Farrell &e Button; Noes; Allen, Riewerts , _ ' Van Bebber and . Mayor Sales; Absent, Batchelor. thereupon, Resolution U2989_ C.S. introduced by Councilman Allen, seconded by Councilman Riewerts, awarding the contract for one hook and ladder truck to the Schluckeber Hdwe. Co. was adopted by 4 affirmative votes; 2 noes; 1 absentee. Resolution #2990 C.S. .introduced by Councilman Allen, seconded by Councilman Riewerts, awarding the contract for one hose wagon to the S`chluckebier Hdweo Co. was adopt - - e.d by 4 affirmative votes; 2 noes; labsentee. Councilman Farrell brought up the matter of a new parking ordinance and after considerable discussion the Mayor appointed a committee of 3 consisting of Councilmen Button and Riewerts and Chief Flohr to draft a new ordinance and present same at the next meeting. Lockers for the police officers at the City Hall was referred to the Buildings and Grounds Committee with power to act. The Committee on electroliers was directed to secure estimate of costs for new e:lectroliers to replace those removed from Washington Street. Councilman Farrell brought up the subject of new fire hydrants - referred to the Fire Board to recommend number and type required. On motion by Councilman Rievverts, seconded by t'ouncilman Van Bebber phones were authorized for the Washington Street Bridge and the Poundman. The matter of a telephone for the police officers in East Petaluma was left to the Chief of Police with power to act. Fire Com_mi:ssioner Newburgh formally reported that the Fire Board has voted to provide regulation uniforms, badges; etc. for the firemen and Chief, to be paid out of the department's gift fund.
