Absent Councilman Farrell. 7 j READING OF THE JOUISTAL: " - The minutes of the last regular meeting of August 18th were read and approved.as recorded. REPORTS OF CITY - OFFICERS The-monthly report of the Auditor and Treasurer and City liJha read and filed. The clerk reported filing of Affidavits of Publication re notice to bidders for remodeling of the City Hall and Notice of Unpaid Assessments on Broadway Street. The City Attorney stated that he had interviewed the Board of Education in - regard to paying rent for the use o.f .the rooms occupied by them in the City Hall and that they were unwilling to pay for same. The City Attorney also reported receiving law books ordered some- time ago by the former City Attorney. REPORTS ON STANDING COMKITTEES: 'The Iinance Committee rendered its report of numerous claims against the City and Councilman Van Bebber introduced and Councilman xllenn seconded, folloWing resolution: Resolution #x2999 C.S. BE IT RESOLVED THAT the Auditor be and she is hereby directed to draw warrants against the various City Funds in payment of claims allowed and approved by the Finance Committee. Adopted by 6 affirmative votes, 1 absentee. Councilman Allen of the Street Committee retorted that he had taken. up the matter of the improvement of American Alley with the eater company but had not yet been able "to see President Hill about it. PETITIONS AND CO3 NS: Request from I B. Yaymond for a sewer on 5th Street from I to J.Streets and along J to the manhole on Sixth Street, read and filed. Later brought up under the head of'new business and the City Engineer was directed to make the necessary survey. I Communication from P. McNear stating that the deed fo.r the lot' on 2nd and D Streets, donated to the City, will be ready for delivery whenever the City desires it. Filed. Petition from property owners on 3rd Street objecting to the granting of a permit for the removal of the Thomas IMriaclay old residence from 6th. Street to 3rd Street read and filed. . Application from Peul Mezzera for . a soft drink license at 156 :Main Street read and filed. i {eport and recommendations of the annual audit of the books o f the City of Petaluma read and filed. Communication`froin the Great Wastern Power Company regarding re- duction of franchise fax on its gross income, and opinion from City Attorney Howell regarding the regality of the reduction read and filed. Later brought up under the head of new business and it was decided to accept the check under protest and to take the matter up immediately vvith the officials of the League of California Idlunicipalities. G introduced by Councilman Allen, seconded by Councilman Batchelor, accept - the bid of the Vogensen Construction Company for the remodeling of the lower floor of the City Hall for the accommodation of the Fire Department for the sum o "f $994.00 was adopted by 6 affirmative votes, 1 absentee. The matter was taken undd advisement. Resolution #3008 C.S: introduced by Councilman Allen, seconded by Councilman Van Bebber, directing. the City Engineer to make a survey of sewer conditions on Liberty Street, between Washington and Western Avenue, on Western Avenue between Ho and Keller Streets and ors Keller Street between Western Avenue and Washing- - ton and to make his report: covering the sewer conditions, together with hi recommendations, adopted by 6 affirmative votes, 1 absentee. whereupon the City :engineer filed his report and recommendations. After a lengthy discussion it was decided to go ahead with the sewer from Western Avenue to the northerly line of the Adsit property on Liberty Street and the City Attorney was directed to have Resolution of In'. ention covering the above sewer as well as the 5th and I Streets sever ready for the adjourn- ed meeting. . The proposition of a sewer on Sixth Street between B and C Streets was left to the Street Committee and City Engineer with power to act.
