Regular meeting of, the Council of the City of Petaluma called to
order by Mayor Sales.
ROLL CALL:
Councilmen present; Allen, Batchelor, Farrell, Button, Riewerts,
and Mayor Sal
Absent Councilman Van Bebber.
READING OF'THE JOURNAL
The. minutes of the last regular meeting of .December 15th and the
special meeting of December 29th were read and approved as recorded.
REPORTS OF CITY OFFICERS:
Monthly report;- of the City Auditor,. Treasurer, Wharfinger and
Poundme:n were read and filed. Report submitted by the . Street Superintend -
ent of outstanding accounts was read and ,filed.

against the city, whereupon

the Auditor to. draw warrants against the various City Funds in. payment
of claims ..allowed and approved by the Finance Committee adopted by 6
affirmative votes, 1 absentee.
In connection with the Financial report the Clerk reported that
bills of the Kane Detective Agency, totaling §625.43, had been rejected
by the Finance Committee..

by Councilman Van Bebber, establishing the grade of "G "'Street, came
up regularly and 'was adopted by 6 ' affirmative votes , 1

Ordinance'No. 262 C.S. introduced by Councilman Farrell, seconded
by Councilman Van Bebber, amending Ordinance N.o. 239 C.S. came up
regularly and was adopted by 6 affirmative votes, 1 absentee.

The Clerk reported that the City.Planning had deposited
the sum of �P164.50., whereupon,

introduced by Councilman Batchelor, seconded' by Councilman Allen, accept
ing said sum and appropriating it for the use of the City Planning
Commission, adopted by 6-'affirmative votes, 1 absentee.
The City Asse reported that a propert owner desires to deed o
the city a lot at the corner of Post and Douglass-Straet rather than pay
the street assessment. On motion by Councilman Batchelor, seconded by
Councilman Allen, it was regularly moved that deed to said lot be
accepted and th_e.City Attorney was directed to notify said property owner
to prepare the necessary conveyance.
Councilman Button reported the,poss bility of securing a cheaper

The matter of installing a gas tank i the American Alley was
discussed at length,'Commissioner Newburgh reporting that it was the
sense of the Fire Board that the .present oil and and gasoline ordinance
be not changed in order to accommodate this one request. After con-
siderable discussion by the Council and parties requesting the change
of ordinance it was referred to the City Attorney, the Fire Chief
and Councilman Farrell for investigation and report -.
Councilman xiewerts reported an offer for the purchase of some
of the, unused paving blocks now stored in East .Petaluma. No action
taken.
Attorney Howell read a communcation' the Board of Fire
Underwriters in re code sys °tem of. el- ectric wiring and various other
recommendations for-the improvement of the fire department. Filed.
Resolution # 3068 C.S.
introduced by Councilman Farrell, seconded by Councilman Batchelor,
extending the, sympathy of the members of the Council to G. W. Van
Be in his.unfortunate accident, adopted 6 affirmative votes,
1 absentee.
SEVIAGE SYSTEM:

introduced by Councilman Allen, seconded by Councilman Batchelor,
resolving that the public interest and necessity demand the acquisition,
construction and completion of a complete sewer system, adopted by 6
affirmative votes, 1 absentee.
Resolution #30'70 C.S.
introduced by Councilman Batchelor, seconded by Councilman Allen, re-
solving that the public interest and necessity demand the acquisition,
construction.,and completion of a sewage treatment works and the
acquisition and purchase of lands necessary as a location therefor,
together with the necessary rights of way, adopted by 6 affirmative
votes 1 absentee.
In this connection the N.1ayor spoke of the advisability of a trip down
the river to personally inspect the proposed sites for the reduction
plant and also to inspect the rights of way.
The bill of §625.43 of the Kane Dee'tective Agency was brought
up and discussed at length, Councilman Farrell, definitely stating
hi.s.views on the subj�ect. Attorney Howell submitted an opinion
regarding the legality. of the .bill. Various stated that they
desired more authority on the matter and the whole matter was laid
on the table,.
