ROLL CALL Present: Councilmen Allen, Button, Farrell, Riewerts,V Bebber and Mayor Sales. Absent: Councilman Batchelor. READING OF THE JOURNAL "The minutes'of the last regular meeting of May 4th and the Special meeting of May 11th were read, and approved as recorded. REPORTS OF'CITY OFFICERS The Clerk reports the filing of Affidavit of Posting of Ordinance No. 279 C.S., affidavit of publication re e,leet.ion proclamation; Ordina No. 278 C.S., Resolution of.Intention "G" Street and Notice Inviting Sealed Proposals Central Avenue. The City Engineer submitted profile and estimated cost of "I" Street Sewer,; also rought estimates of t cost for the improvement of Washington Street,- Wilson Street and Western Filed.. Recommendations from the Superintendent of Streets read and filed. REPORTS OF STANDING COIJIMITT-EES The Finance Committee rendered its report of numerous claims again- st the City, wheretipon Resolution 43142 C.S. introduced by Councilman'Allen, seconded by Councilman Van Bebber, directing the Auditor to draw warrants against the various City Funds in payment. of claims allowed and approved by the Finance Committee, adopted by 6 affirmative votes, 1 absentee. Recommendation from the Board.of.Fire Commissioners for a new gasoline storage Ordinance-read and filed. Letter from the ivIeMonagle'Advertising Agency read and filed. Application from Fred'S. Jones, 311 Oak Street,.for permission to sell soft drinks, read and filed. Invitation from'the United Spanish War Veterans to participate in the memorial day parade read, filed and accepted. Letter from the Grand Lodge of Dania read and filed. INTRODUCTION OF ORDINANCES Ordinance No. 280'C'. - 'S. introduced by Councilman Farrell, seconded by Councilman Van Bebber, regulating the keeping or storage of gasoline in any service station in the City of Petaluma, read, approved by the City Attorney and ordered published. ADOPTION OF O:RD_INANCE'S: Ordinance N' °o. 279 .'S9_ introduced by.Councilman Farrell, seconded by Councilmen Button,*being an ordinance of the City of Petaluma appropriating and setting aside the sum of �p625.43 for the payment of claims of'det`ectives for services and expenses, came'up regularly and was adopted by 6 affirmative-votes, 1 absentee. NEW BUSINESS: Irwih"'Street : This being the time for hearing protests on the Improvement of Irwin Street, numerous property owners appeared protest- ing against the said improvement and two members of the East Petaluma Improvement Club addressed the 'Council asking that the work be done. On motion by Councilman Farrell, seconded by Councilman Button the IJOAV 1 hearing clean u p the street before that time. was continued until June lst, the property owners agreeing to I S treet Sewer: The "I" Street Sewer proposition was discuss`e d and the Mayor appointed a committee consisting of Councilmen Farrell'; Riewerts and Van Bebber to investigate and bring back a report at the next regular meeting. Councilman Button asked t;o be excused from the meeting at this point. s Attorney Howell asked for instruction in the Hickey case and after some discussion Mr. Hickey addressed the ' C6 • asking - that the case be ended where it i that the City is hounding him in this issue. jx , Resolution #3147'C.S. introduced by Councilman 'Allen, seconded by-Councilman Farrell, resolving that the City of Petaluma appeal from the judgment in the case of the City ofi.Petaluma vs. Vi. J. Hickey, adopted by 4 affirmative votes, 1 no, 2 a b:s a nt`e e s. Mayor Sales advised the, Council of the small -pox epidemic and the action taken by the Board-of Health in vacinating the school- children and supply- in food to needy families. Action approved. Complaint 'by a citizen of discourteous treatment by city police officersi at the time of his arrest referred to the Chief of Police. The matter of the two bridges being open at the same time was called to the lttention of the Council, to be taken .up with the bridge tenders.
