I was not able to attend the city meeting due to previous commitment but I would like to voice my opposition to this plan. The area is already frequently congested with traffic and the addition of large gas complex next to a preschool and residential housing is just plain thoughtless and heartless on the city planning's part. I am not against putting in a gas complex but not in that location where people's homes, children's health, and the already prominent traffic issues in Petaluma will be adversely affected. Thank you for your time Corinne Reif Resident at 51 Burlington Drive Petaluma CA 94952 6-15-1 Adam Petersen From: McDowell, Ellen <EMCDOWELL@ci.petaluma.ca.us> Sent: Wednesday, May 9, 2018 8:01 AM To: Adam Petersen; Hines, Heather Cc: Ellis, Evelyn Subject: FW: gas station Ellen McDowell Development Services Coordinator, City of Petaluma Community Development - Planning Division 11 English Street, Petaluma, CA 94952 Phone: (707) 778-4472 Hours; Monday -Thursday 8am-Spm, closed Fridays From: Robin Aquino [mailto:aquino.robin@gmail.com] Sent: Tuesday, May 08, 2018 7:59 PM To: petalumaplanning <petalumaplanning@ci.petaluma.ca.us> Subject: gas station Dear Planning Commission, write to voice my strong -objection to the proposed Safeway gas station project at South McDowell and Maria Drive. That location sits amidst single family neighborhoods, well -kept apartment complexes, baseball fields, parks, and multiple schools, including McDowell Elementary and two licensed preschool centers: 4Cs Petaluma Child Development Center, and North Bay Children's Center. A gas station at this site would be detrimental to the walkability and ever-growing "neighborhood" spirit of this community. it would also have a negative impact on air and soil quality, which is absolutely unacceptable given the presence of the schools; all of which have gardening and outside learning as pillars of their curriculum. I am a parent to a child in attendance at 4Cs Petaluma Child Development Center. I speak for the many parents there who do not feel safe making their opinions known when I say that a gas station is dangerous and unsuitable at this site. I implore you to consider the experience and health of children, families and educators living, working and learning at South McDowell and Maria Drive and to vote NO on this project. Please do the right thing. Vote NO. There is too much multiple unit development in the same neighborhood. Traffic, Fire, Schools, and medical emergency is all compromised. Look at what happened with developer of the multiple unit complex on Baywood and Lakeville. With impunity the developer reached outside the permit and destroyed a neighborhood for their own gain. All those mature oaks gone. We , the citizens who live in this neighborhood do not need the impact of hugely escalating traffic that gas stations and more and more multi units brings. STOP this greed fest and let Petaluma be a sustainable community , not another Walnut Creek corridor with the loss of community that entails. Do your job and be responsive to the citizens not the out of town money interests. NO Safeway gas here.. Petalumans don't need it. Bigger is worse, not better. I have been to Safeway gas at the shopping center at Hamilton and there is always a long line up of cars there and it is not a desirable situation for our community!! Furthermore, it would cause further traffic issues for the already horrible intersection of McDowell and Washington. As a Petaluma East Side resident dealing with that traffic nightmare at least 5 evenings a week, I'm pretty certain that alone makes the Safeway gas location a poor choice.
