of the City of Petaluma, California
AUTHORIZING A GRANT APPLICATION TO THE STATE DEPARTMENT OF
BOATING AND WATERWAYS FOR THE CONSTRUCTION OF THE PETALUMA
RIVERWALK LOCATED SOUTH OF THE `D' STREET BRIDGE TO `H' STREET
WHEREAS, in 1996, the City of Petaluma adopted the Petaluma River Access and
Enhancement Plan, which establishes the City's vision for the future use of and access to the
Petaluma River; and,
WHEREAS, the Petaluma River Access and Enhancement Plan calls for the creation of a
"Riverwalk" along the banks of the river and, more specifically, along the west side of the river
from south of the `D' Street Bridge to `H' Street; and,
WHEREAS, the Central Petaluma Specific Plan, adopted by the City in 2003, calls for
the creation of "civic spaces" at the end of "G" and `H' Streets that could be used for public
access to the river and, in particular, for the launching of small, human-powered watercraft; and,
WHEREAS, the City of Petaluma has already completed, or plans to complete segments
of the Riverwalk through the downtown area and up to the `D' Street Bridge; and,
WHEREAS, the proposed grant from the state Department. of Boating and Waterways
will provide essential funding for the proposed segment from south of the `LD' Street Bridge to
`H' Street.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED the City Council of the City of Petaluma
does hereby authorize the filing of an application to the state Department of Boating and
Waterways for an access facility grant for the purpose of constructing the segment of the
Petaluma Riverwalk from south of the `D' Street Bridge to `H' Street in the City of Petaluma and
to provide public access sites in accordance with the Petaluma River Access .and Enhancement
Plan and the Central Petaluma Specific Plan.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Council further designates the City
Manager to accept the grant and sign the grant agreement to carry out the intent of this
Resolution.
