OPPOSING STATE PROPOSITION 226 -
CERTAIN
POLITICAL CONTRIBUTIONS
WHEREAS, State Proposition 226 which would require all employers and labor
organizations to obtain employees' or members' permission before withholding wages or using
union dues or fees for political contributions; and,
WHEREAS; employees' or member's permission is to be obtained annually using a
prescribed form; and,
WHEREAS, the Proposition would require specific record keeping; and,
WHEREAS, the Proposition prohibits contributions to state and local candidates by
residents, governments or entities of foreign countries.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that.the City Council of the City of Petaluma
hereby opposes State Proposition 226 on the June, 1998, ballot and urges all citizens to also
oppose said proposition.
Under the power and authority conferred upon this Council by the Charterof said Ci[y.
