AN ORDINANCE AMENDING ARTICLE 3 OF CHAPTER 27 OF THE
PETALUMA CITY CODE OF 1958 BY ADDING THERETO SECTION
27. 44.1 TO PROVIDE F09 SUMMER IRRIGATION RATES.
WHEREAS, this, Council finds that it would be to the benefit of the 'City to
promote the use of water for the purposes .of irrigating lawns; gardens and parks
in and about the City of Petaluma in that the same would beautify the City and
assist iii' making this City a . more pleasant place to live; and
WHEREA S, the matter of establishing a summer irrigation rate has been
carefully sudied by the Water 'Commi'ss'ion and this Council and the finding is
that any, possible loss incurred by a reductionyin, water °rates,cai� b6
absorbed by this City and that such loss,, if any there.'bq will be offset- in great
part by the beautification of;the 7City and the possibility,, of increased water usage;
NOW, -THEREFOR-E,. BE ,IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF PETALUMA:
Section j. Section .27. 44. 1 -of the Petaluma City Code of 1958 is hereby
added to read as follows:
Section 27:, 44,.1. The City may, by resolution, adopted by the City
Council on or: before the 15th day of May of each year, modify the charges
µ
applicable to, all metered water service for domestic, commercial or industrial
services so as .to.prov:ide an economic incentive to use more water during the
months of June,. July, August and 'September 'of the calendar year in which the
is adopted. An resolution adopted pursuant to the authority of this
section shall be effective only for the calendar year in which the same is adopted.
Prior to- the effective' date of any resolution adopted. pursuant to this section it
shall .be: published once in the .official ..newspaper of the City. "
Section 2. . This Ordinance is hereby declared to be necessary for the
immediate preservation of the public peace, health and safety and shall take
effect aiid be in force upon its passage, °by unanimous vote of the members of
'the - City 06uncil present at the time of its adoption. The reason for the urgency
Of this O .dinance is to permit the adoption of a -resolution to provide for a
summer' irrigation rate for the summer months of the calendar year of 1963.
Section 3. The City Clerk, be, and she'is, hereby directed to post this
Ordinance for the period and in the manner required by the City Charter.
