AN ORDINANCE: OF THE CITY `.13 act,'
OF PETAL.UMA TO ESTABLISH
SALARY STEPS; TO ESTABLISH: SALARY .RANGES (WITH HOURLY
RATE EQUIVALENTS); TO ESTABLISH POSITION CLASSIFICATIONS
OF PERSONNEL AND SALARY' RANGES 'THERE'FOR AND REPEAL-
ING ALL ORDINANCES A.ND/OR RESOLUTIONS IN CONFLICT
HEREWITH.
BE -IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PETALUMA, AS FOLLOWS:
Section L Normal Hiring, Rate, Defined. That the amount shown
hereafter tas the "Normal Hiring., Rate" shall be .the mit rnum and' beginning amount
of salary, or wage to be paid for the position of employment shown, and the amount
to be: paid until the employee ,shall "`have served'a't least six 'months probationary
period in said office or ,employment.
Section 2. Second Step, Defined, That the amounts shown hereafter as
the "Second Step,", shall be the maximum amount of salary or wage to be paid for
the position or employment sh'owi-i after the completion of six .months satisfactory
Work, subject to such changes' as ,may be made`by the City Manager- pursuant to
authority, given him by ordinance or resolution adopted by the 'City Council from
time to time,.
Section 3. Third S,tep,, .Defined. That -the amounts shown hereafter as the
"Third Step" shall be the maximum amount of salary or wage to be paid for the
position or employment shownafter at least one year fully satisfactory work
beyond theprobationary period, subject to such changes as may be made by the
City Manager pursuant to authority given him by ordinance or resolution adopted
by the City Council from time to time.
Section 4. Fourth,Step, Defined. That the amounts shown hereafter as

Section 8. M;o pfhly S-alaries Non-Classified.
The following non'-classified
po=sitions: City Attorney, City Manager, City Treasurer, and Radio Engineer
shall receive salaries as shall be established by resolution of th,e City Council
from time to time enacted.

Section 9. The salaries established herein shall be effective as of
July 1, 1962.
Section 10. This Ordinance is hereby declared to be necessar-y.for the
immediate preservat=ion of the public peace, -health and safety of the. City of
Petaluma, and shall take effect and be in force from and after its final passage
by an unanimous vote.of the members of the City Council present at the time of
its adoption: The .reason for the urgency of this Ordinance ,ins to permit the
fiscal affairs to be orderly, in accordance with sound accounting principals,
and to eliminate the necessity of supplementary payroll proceddres..
Section 11. All ordinances or resolutions or parts thereof. con-
flicting or inconesistei t with the provisions of th s'Ordinance hereby adopted are
hereby repealed as of effective date of this Ordinance. "
Section 12. The City Clerk, be, and she is, hereby directed to post
this Ordinance for the period and in the manner required by the City Charter.
