HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution 97-034 02/03/1997 Resolution No. s7-s4 N.C.S. l of the City of Petaluma, California 2 3 4 5 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE 6 CITY OF PETALUMA APPEALING THE NOTICE OF INTENT 7 TO DENY CERTIFICATION TO THE PETALUMA 8 CERTIFIED UNIFIED PROGRAM AGENCY APPLICATION 9 ]0 - 11 WHEREAS, the City of Petaluma has always demonstrated a strong commitment to the ] 2 protection of the environment by enforcing hazardous materials and hazardous waste regulations 13 for over ten years and has been very successful in achieving this goal through a long standing 14 philosophy of assisting the business community to comply with the myriad of environmental laws; 15 and 16 17 WHEREAS, the City of Petaluma recognized it could further consolidate these programs and 18 promote this philosophy by applying as a Certified Unified. Program Agency (CUPA); and 19 20 WHEREAS, the City has consistently demonstrated it maintains the infrasimcture to implement 21 these programs through our long history of assisting the business community with these laws and 22 regulations; and 23 24 WHEREAS, the City has demonstrated in its application that the overall consolidation throughout 25 the county will be improved, resulting in a lessor number of agencies administering CUPA 26 programs; and 27 28 WHEREAS, the City has demonstrated in its application and to various Cal-EPA staff it has been 29 working in a harmonious manner with the other CUPA applicant agencies in the county for over 30 two years to coordinate, consolidate and bring less fragmentation to all aspects of our programs; 31 and Resmw~on No. 97-34 rr.as. Page 1 of 2 1 2 WHEREAS, the City has demonstrated in its application that the business community will be the 3 true benefactor of our certification by allowing fire code and CUPA Program inspections to be 4 combined into one true inspection; 5 6 NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by the City Council of the City of Petaluma as 7 follows: 8 The City appeals the "Notice of Intent to Deny Certification" and requests the 9 Secretary overturn this decision and issue a "Notice of Intent to Approve 10 Certification" as a Certified Unified Ptogram Agency. 11 Under the powerand authority conferred upon this Council by the Charter of said City.
