Public Comment
Laure Reichek, Petaluma, regarding the need for an early warning system;
for example, sirens on the roofs of the fire station.
Marrian Thul, Petaluma, said City did wonderful job except for not warning
people, and asked what will be done to keep this from happening again.
Stan Gold, Petaluma, read an article from today's Press Democrat about
wetlands carved out of a park in inner-city Los Angeles, and suggested a
similar approach in Petaluma.
Bill Greene, Petaluma, came to represent the residents of Youngstown
Mobile Home Park, said the residents wanted to thank the Police, Fire, and
other workers for their help during the storm. He asked about the handling
of contaminated materials from the storm. People need to be advised on
safe ways to handle such materials. Residents are experiencing health
issues from this. What can the City provide to help with this clean up
effort? Can the residents get some kind of relief from PG&E? Where does
the landlord's responsibility begin and tenants' responsibility end? He
stated he in touch with people who can help with clean up if City can
provide materials and equipment.
Council Member Torliatt
Bill Donahue, Petaluma, a resident of Sandlewood Mobile Home Park.
Stated his park had no flooding. One major difference in his park is the
two greenbelts, which serve as detention basins. Right now there are
permits to build on those. He asked Council not to allow this.
Ron Kenyon, Petaluma, regarding residents of mobile home parks which
were flooded in the New Year's Storm who are exhibiting flu -like
symptoms.
Geoff Cartwright, Petaluma, stated the recent storm was a 40- or 50-year
storm, but resulted in 100-year storm depths. No retention ponds that
could be built within City limits would suffice.
