Mayor Torliatt suggested that the Community Development Department budget presentation be heard first, to accommodate members of the public who would like to contribute comment to that department's draft budget. 1. She thought it could be a part-time contract position. Diana Painter, Petaluma, spoke regarding the benefits to the City of a historic preservation planner. Marianne Hurley, Petaluma, Historic and Cultural and Preservation Committee, spoke in favor of the City having a historical preservation planner. She said that with the many historic areas in the City, consistency is needed in planning. The City needs someone who can apply for funding for updating design guidelines for historic districts, and an updated survey of historic properties in the City. Both of these are very outdated. Bill Wolpert, Petaluma, Historic and Cultural Preservation Committee, spoke regarding the importance of preserving Petaluma's rich heritage. One of the City's first activities as a Certified Local Government (CLG) would be to update and expand the inventory of historic buildings. What's lacking is some real leadership from the City on how to deal with these resources and make a plan. Mayor Torliatt asked if there was consensus on the Council to ask the City Manager to provide funding options for this position. Council agreed.
