PUBLIC COMMENT
Tom Corbett, Petaluma Yacht Club, Petaluma, spoke for the community and to bring
good news. He reported that the Yacht Club had very successful Memorial Weekend
visit with close to 200 people visiting. There were no incidents of vandalism at the turning
basin docks. He raved about the improvements to the docks and stated that the good
news has begun to spread. Boaters enjoyed visit and said they would return.
Jessica Van Gardner, Petaluma Visitors Program, Petaluma, spoke about
the improvements in the Turning Basin and provided supportive comments about the
changes in the Turning Basin. She stated that it is such a positive and fun experience to
provide boaters with the assurances they have come to expect with other downtown
harbors.
John Fitzgerald, Petaluma River Authority, Petaluma, stated that he had good news. The
Petaluma River Festival Association has sent a letter to the National Parks Service
requesting the jazz festival be on the river on August 1 1 th. Mr. Fitzgerald has had
personal contact with the National Parks Service and they are now considering the
schedule. Secondly, he spoke as co-chair as the Petaluma River Authority and Chair of
the River Committee. He stated that since the river is a transportation corridor, a federal
navigable water way and under the jurisdiction of the Coast Guard, we need to think
about the overall appearance and security of the turning basin. If there were a natural
disaster the river may become a corridor for transportation. He believed it is very
important that we keep our concentration on the turning basin, its maintenance and
security and that people understand its importance.
