NEW BUSINESS, continued A. Introduction (First Reading) of Ordinances Implementing Senate Bill 53 and Senate Bill 1809 (Marengo/Danly): Ordinance 2271 N.C.S. Describing the Petaluma Community Development Commission's Program to Acquire Real Property by Eminent Domain in the Central Business District Redevelopment Project Area. Ordinance 2272 N.C.S. City Attorney Danly Mayor Torliatt Vol. 42, Page 512 June 4, 2007 City Attorney Danly Mayor Torliatt City Attorney Danly Mayor Torliatt Public Comment Geoff Cartwright, Petaluma, said that he and many others opposed the eminent domain aspects of the redevelopment plan when it was brought forth in 1988, and that language was taken out of the plan. He realizes that there is now state law requiring this language to be included, but he hoped Petaluma wouldn't do what some cities back East have done - take property by eminent domain and turn it over to developers for a profit. Mayor Torliatt Motion: Approve Ordinance 2271 N.C.S. Describing the Petaluma Community Development Commission's Program to Acquire Real Property by Eminent Domain in the Central Business District Redevelopment Project Area; and Ordinance 2272 N.C.S.
