APPROVAL. OF MINUTES: '.The minutes of July 2, 1974 were-approved as
.,submitted .
CORRESPONDENCE: The Commission was advised that a letter had been
received from.the,.County of Sonoma Department of
Mental Health'5ervices expressing appreciation
for calling to their "Attention the unattractive
appearance of their administrative offices in
Petaluma and advising that they would take imme-
diate steps to rectify the situation.
Mr. Gray advised that another person, who had
been .sent _a similar letter at . the direction of
the Commission regarding the appearance of a
site, :had indicated thatt he.,.-felt ,it would be
better in the future to make an.informal: phone
call rather than.to write a letter when coopera-
tive effort was desired.. Mr. Gray advised the
Commission that in the future both forms of
communication, would •be used.

The ..Comm" ssion was reminded of the. signs that
had' `been. removed at the rear of the Petaluma
Plaza Shopping Center .at their request. and of
the fact that aft iden tlfii cation, ,.sign for the
shopping center. oh-the, .rear - .of' the building
had been suggested "by the Commission at that
time: Mr. Gray advised that a variance request
had been received for an identification sign,
identical in- design to the free- standing sign
for the shopping center,,, to.,be painted on the
rear of the building. This.sign would be
visible from East Washington,Street and...South
McDowell Blvd.. The Commisson..agreed that the
Director..of Community should handle
this matter administratively.

been prepare d,. Mr. Gray then briefly explained_

the Count now requires a Use Petmit service
stations , ,., Therefore, the county staff i.s
considering the' entire truc k stop to, update the
operation ion as we as a request* f or an additional

The: Public Hearing was; opened and Mr. Joe
contractor for the project, informed

:.determining.: the in 'lieu park dedication: fee.
Mr. Gray .s`ugg6sted.: that the-.ordinance be- changed
to' reflect, the .appraised cash' value of thet land
instead of = 'the= assessed.., cash value of the* County
Assessor. The, Commission .agreed with this
sug.geston,.and Mr.; Gray _informed•..them he 'would
- draft this change to, the Subdivision ordinance:
for consideration at the next meeting.

:.. wished ,.to have .a_.study _session .on July 30, 1974
to consider. the McNear Island;.Study Area; the
North McDowell__ Blvd. Ho ding ::-done ..Study,. the
Noise: Section ,of' the - Ecologi Resour ..Element,
the School. Site Study, and the 'Z change regard-
ing. the Kieckhefer property. He further advised
that :the property owners of the McNe'ar peninsula
and. surrounding properties' would be invited to
attend this study-session.
The Commission was advised they.would r.eceive.a f
copy of the new. ,1974'- Budget as soon as it is
available.
