I RESOLUTION APPROVING THE USE OF
2 GRANT FUNDS UNDER THE 1997
3 LOCAL LAW ENFORCEMENT BLOCK GRANTS PROGRAM

5 WHEREAS, the Bureau of Justice Assistance has made funds available to the City of
6 Petaluma under the 1997 Local Law Enforcement Block Grants Program for the purpose of
7 reducing crime and improving public safety, and;
8
9 WHEREAS, the grant funds must be used in one of the purpose areas specified by the
10 grant documents, and;

12 WHEREAS, the grant requires an Advisory Board to review the proposed use of funds,
t3 and;

15 WHEREAS, the Advisory Board reviewed the grant requirements and proposed use of
16 funds on September 25, 1997, and;

t8 WHEREAS, the Advisory Board, City Manger and Acting Chief of Police recommend the
19 funds be used in the FY 97-98 Budget to increase the size of the Petaluma Police Department's
20 marked patrol vehicle fleet by one additional vehicle, and to provide Petaluma Police Departments
21 pro rata share of funds to M.A.G.N.E.T. for Gang Enforcement in Petaluma, and;

23 WHEREAS, a noticed public hearing was held on October 6, 1997, to hear public
2a conunents regarding the recommended use of the grant funds.

26 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by the City Council that;

28 1. The City Manager is authorized to accept funding from the Bureau of Justice
29 Assistance under the 1997 Local Law Enforcement Block Grants Program on behalf
30 of the City .

32 2. The grant funds shall be deposited in the Police Trust Fund and. accounted for
33 separately as required by the grant.
Under the power and authority conferred upon tMs Council by the Charter of said City.
