Film - "Open Space,.Going, Going
The Planning Director advised the'Commission availability of
a very thought provoking film:.. entitl'ed.,.... "Open Space, Going, Going."
The Commission :expressed ,an interest`.in seeing .the film on June 29th
at a joint meeting of the City Council and. P lanning.._Commission.
Petaluma .River.:.Report
At this time:Mr'. McGivern gave a:very comprehensive - review of the
recently completed. Petaluma...River Study.:report conducted under the
auspices.. :of....the. Sonoma. Economic= Development 'Board, City of
Petaluma, the Petaluma Chamber of.Commerce.
General Plan
Mr. McGiver.m - discussed the' necessity. for updating .the -..General Plan
and Zoning Ordinance: He stated .'the... staff - :is ",.in:_the 'process of col-
. lecting data, combining thoughts..and:.recommendations on the change
for this year. However, this will-only skim.,the surface. The
present General Plan was formulated 10.:.years_ago and.it,.is now time
to set up objectives and goals for the future. 'Outside:
will be needed to. help with this .maj.or_-project.
Houseboats
Commissioner Mervin Waters _expr.essed strong: concern::.over....peonle
living on boats along. the .river. bank- .in.,-the vicinity of East Wash-
ington Street. Mr. McGivern informed Mr. Waters other complaints
relative to this matter have been received..from.the..President and
Manager o'f the Chamber of Commerce. An investigation is now under
way and a report -will be presented to _the ..City: - Manager. The in-
vestigation will determine the source of- electrical power, disposal
of sewage, whether .permits have been - granted.: to -allow the mooring,
and whether or not the lands -: involved-..: are ..private-ly. ;owned .. • A re-
sult of the investigation will be forwarded'.to:the:Commission.
