The motion was passed unanimously by,all members
present. The Commission directed the staff to
prepare a letter to the applicant recording the
action taken.
The Commission requested that representatives
of the property, owners in the area meet with
the. developer. Mr.. Jim Grivich submitted- -a
petition with 531 signatures opposing the._sub-
ject rezoning., for the files.

Chairman Waters opened the public hearing. The
applicant was not present. Comm. Balshaw ques-
tioned Condition 41 regarding the two covered
parking spaces Much discussion f=owed, where-
upon the Commission felt. covered . parking
space would be adequate..
A motion was introduced by Comm. Cer -ini,
seconded by Comm,. Balshaw; to approve the
application filed by Alice Monte to allow a
lodging house for elderly ladies at 204 Sutter
Street subject to the three conditions as
listed in the staff.report with Condition #1
modified as follows upon Commission recommenda-
tion-

McGvern gave an up-to-date review of the area
and the.reasoning for'."rezoning the subject
area. Mr. McGivern reported the property
.,owners within the 5:0.0' radius of the subject
property had been notif ed of the public hear-
ing and no opposing responses had been received.
No opposition was voiced by t14 and ence where-
upon,. Chairman Waters closed the public hearing.
Upon weighing all the fact's, a motion was intro-
duced by. Comm. Daly, seconded by Comm.. .Popp,
approving the ..rezoning of the subject,
to cdmply' with the Environmental Design. Plan.
The motion was passed unanimously by mem-
bers presen`t..
COMMISSIONERS REPORTS
Comm,. Daly brought before the Commission's at-
tention the City Counc -1 : action taken on an
application filed'by James; Codding,for
A. P. , #7421 -5 `from an M L,. (I,im .ted Industrial)
District to C -`H (Highway Commercial) DIs;tr.ict.
The Council..tabled the, subject rezoning for a
period not to exceed the irst meeting ;in June..
The Council requested a means of; satisfying
'al,l concerned and comply. ng with the Environ-
mental .Design Plan be studied. They recommended
the Commission initiate an added conditional
use to the Zoning -Ordinance #662 N.C,,S. The
M -L ('Limited Industr.ial District should have
an added coed- itional use - allowing motels and
hotels in the subject district providing the
use is appropri&a a in the subject locations
and, will be complimentary to the surrounding
industrial area.

sion. He requested action on the subject prop-
erty be taken as soon as possible.

Planning Commission,Agenda thelCommissIon's
intention to add motels and hotels as conditional
uses in the M-L (Limited I-ndustrial) District
(Amp - ndment to Zoning Ordinance *662 N.C' .S.)

seconded by Comm. Popp, approving the
final map for Washington Square Shopping
Center Unit No. 1. The motion was passed
unanimously by all members present.
INFORMATION ONLY: The Commission directed the staff to prepare
a 'letter for the Chairman's signature, to
the .City Council., supporting the Planning
Director's request for additional personnel.
ADJOURNMENT: There being no further business to come
before the Commission, the meeting was
adjourned.
