DOWNTOWN
Mr.. Da Traversi, Chairman of the ;Downtown
REPORT
Liaison Committee introduced. the other members
of the committee; namely, Mrs. :Ray Johnson, Mr.
D'of Ramatiei, M Jack Garr ison,, Mr. Fred .Mattel,
Mr. Lloyd Burlingham `and, Mr. Ken Colin, Council
Ex- Officio Member. Mr. .Ed Schmelz was not Pres-
ent Mr. Travers'i read the recommendations of
the Committee (incorporated in report form and
on file in the Planning Office?) . Mr. Tr:aversi
stated that the Liaison, Committee initially
recommends that definite provisions should be
made providing the 'properties acquired for
ing in the Core Area should b'e paid for by the
downtown property owners whom the parking would
serve. Furthermore as the pro,pos"ed plan indicates,
the conversion o:f - -` Kentucky Street to a mall should

,if there is no interest and w_ llingness on behalf
of the persons concerned;, namely the property

Mr., T stated it was the unanimous decision
of the Liais to recommend the adoption

zation of the downtown area az a part of the General.
Plan o'f the City of ,Petaluma.. Mr, .Rimov, Planning
Consultant:, addressed the Commission, and audience
and further outlined the, proposed plan.. Additional
, affirmative comments made..by Mayor Helen Putnam,
the ,Coun'cilmen present;' Ray Rocc l representing
the Parks and Recreation Commission, Mr. Norman
Van.Bebb`er, 'former Mayor.of Petaluma,. °Owen Fredericks,
President of the Chamber of Commerce and several
interested land developers and citizens:. Mr. Mc-
Givern congratulated the Committee and Mr..
R°imov for the work they had accomplished. A motion.,
recommending to. the_`C'_,ty Council the accep tance of
the, overall concept and-' obj ec lves of the Prelimin-
ary Core Area Plan aspr:esented, was introduced by
Comm,. Koenitzer, seconded_'by Gomm.. Styles a d'passed,.

WASHINGTON Chairman Fostmeier opened the public hearing
iMANOR regarding the 're;zon I ing capplication filed by
FILE` Z3 =68 A. Condiotti to re.zOno, two patce I ls of land
from an R-1-10,0,00 26np to an R-1-6,000 Zone.
The area requested for rezoning is,known,as
Washington, Manor , No. 1 S ubdivision ubdiv-isiion which was
recently annexed to the' City -of Petaluma (lo-
6&ted, on the west sid East , e of Ra t Washington,
approximately 660 feet south of Ely Boulevard.

(and the other Comm1s concurred with,him)
that a study should be made de regarding lot sizes
in view of the large homes which are being con-
structed- on subdivision lots to allow more open
space, and possibly review the General Plan vela-

Director stated that the original intent for
placing the' re this lot was to pro-
vide a safecruard for the residence. on this lot

Drive was; planned for a 1,9$ grade on the tentative,
'map but on the final improvem ent :plans thbf gradient

street thereby reducing the hazardous condition 'but
the building restriction had not :been 1-i-fted'. A
motion, granting the.variance was introduced by
'Comm. Styles,. 'seconded by Comm. Koeni tzer and

he was employed by Redwood ,Eiftpire Savings .& Loa

conditions of approval, wa:s presented, by Mr.

and Mr.. ,Hamilton Were present ..and opposed the re-
quirement pertaining to street improvements, curb,
gutter and sidewalk s. A lengthy discussion followed.
A motion,, approving the site plans with the condi—
tions stated in the Planning; birector'sxeport,
was introduced by C I omm., Styles,, by Comm.
Ymenitzier and pa Chaitman.Fostmeier informed
the,a,pplicant that,he had the right'to appeal the
Commission!'s requirements to the City Council
,within ten days.
ADJOURNMENT Therebeing no further business to come before the
Commission.,- the meeting was adjourned.
