HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution 96-009 N.C.S. 01/02/1996RESOLUTION NO. ss-os N.C.S. of the City of Petaluma, California 2 3 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL ACCEPTING THE 4 SONOMA COUNTY SUBREGION ISSUES AND POLICIES REPORT 5 AND RECOGNIZING THIS DOCUMENT AS A 6 COLLECTIVE STATEMENT OF SUBREGIONAL POLICY 7 FOR SONOMA COUNTY 8 ') 10 WHEREAS, the Cities and County of Sonoma sharq certain interests and issues in the I I development of lands within the County; and, l2 13 WHEREAS, the Planning Directors of the City and County of Sonoma proposed the preparation 14 of a "Subregional Pilot Planning Project" for Sonoma County which involved a cooperative effort of IS addressing regional planning issues which affect the area, including traffic congestion, air quality, job 16 creation, and provision of affordable housing; and, 17 l8 WHEREAS, the Cities and County of Sonoma, particularly the Mayors' and Comtcilmembers' 19 Working Group, identified the need to work together to identify locally adopted goals and politics which 20 address Subregional issues of Sonoma County and, to this end, each City adopted a Memorandum of 21 Understanding (MOU) for the preparation of a "Subregional Planning Projec[" in July 1995; and, 22 23 WHEREAS. Planning Directors presented a draft version of the Sonoma County Subregion 24 Issues and Policies report to the Working Group on October 19th and 25th, during which the language of 25 the report was further refined by the Working Group while utilizing a consensus process; and, 26 27 WHEREAS, the Working Group presented the final draft of the Sonoma County Subregion 28 Issues and Policies to the general membership of the Mayors' and Councihnembers' Association for their 29 review and comment on November 9, 1995, after which it was agreed upon to release the report to each 30 City and the County. 31 32 NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Petaluma has 33 read the Sonmma County Subregion Issues and Policies report and does hereby accept and recognize this 34 document as anon-binding, bat collective, statement of Subregional policy for Sonoma County and that its 35 preparation involved a high Level of participation and consensus among all the jurisdictions of Sonoma 36 County. 37 38 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Council does hereby direct staff to utilize the 39 policy recommendations outlined in the above referenced document in the drafting of City policy 40 documents to the extent appropriate Cor the City of Petaluma. 41 42 resore /winwont/PT14 Under the power and authority confereod upon this Council by the Charter of said ~ity.
