APPROVAL 'OF' MINUTES: The 'minutes o.f F'eb 7th, 1956, were approved
as recorded.
CORRESPONDENCE Petition containing. signatures of 21 property
owners i,n the `,mme.di =ate area of C.W. Petersen's
property loc'ate'd at E. Washington '& Payran
Streets. which was recently rezoned by Council
action from R -1 zone`to C -1 zone, was read .
requesting reconsideration of the Counc1l.'s
deci,sdon as :they beldeved the' 'lot should be
retained as an R -1 zone.
In connection with the same'subject, letter,.
dated February 20, 1.956 sign by Gail C.. and
Zeta C. Spalding",'wa.s read also requesting
reconsideration of the Councalls• decision on

called for ex_pres,si•ons in. favor and in opposition
to t e A petition was presented by
Mr. Jack Flottman of 316 Fourth Street,, contain-
ing 27 signatures of ned,ghbo_rs fn the vicinity
objecting to the sch ool. Messrs-." Harold Baker
and George Bellmer also voiced their objection.
Due to the fact that the neighbors were opposed
to the school,, Mr., SchuJ,at requested that his
application be cancelled, whereupon no action
was required by the Commission.

decided by the Commission that a public hearing

follow, e.i.., either send the above correspon-
dence to the 'Council for its' consId-erati "on and
action or have a public hearing held,by the
Commission to rezone' said ;parcel to R-"1 Letter,
dated February 6th 1956 . was read from City
Attorney Edouard Robe outlining procedure - f.or
rezoning.
,In lime with the above subject, Councilma=n King
addressed the Commission stating the reason for
his vote in granting -Mr. Petersents reques t;; and
he also believed that the Commission would be
making a mis'ta by holding a public hearing.
Both - Councilmen Gustafson and King, as well as
Commissioner.Bt.g�elow, expressed that if further
action were required by the Council, their votes
would rema as p r evi ously cast favoring C -'l,
zo;n i ng ;
In order to determine the proc,edurre to follow, a
poll indicated' that the Commission favored to
hold a public hearing -to rezone said lot from
, C"1 to R -1

Proper l.egi.slation was directed to be prepared
by the Cit Attorney to set public hearing da °te
at the next meeting.
Mr. Charles Marshall, Engineer, presented a
preliminary layout of Ben Woodworth Subdivision
for an unofficial approval. A five- mLi.:nute recess

was declared to review the plans, after which
the meeting reconvened. It was the decision
of the Commission.that more .study was requ.ired
on the layout before an unofficial approval
is made and suggested that playground area and
a possible school site' be considered by the
subdivider. The Ci,ty.Engineer was directed to
prepare an area plot plan showing properties
abutting the subdivision in order to determine
whether streets should be projected or end in
cul- de- sacs, and also to determine -that none
the area would be landlocked.
Also, ,a letter was directed to be sent to the
Petaluma .S'c-h,00 Board, with ,a copy of the pre-
laminary layout, for its: information and re-
commendation in regard 'to future school facili -.
,ties, and that, the matt will come before the
Planning Commission at its next meeting.
Following councilman Kingts comment that re-
zoning sa.id'.area would set a precedent which .
might affect the'uptown Parking District and
other C -2 di.striets, Resolution #40 of Inten-
tJon to propose an amendment to Zoning Ordinance
#340 N.C by rezoning E. Washington Street.

to a. C -2P zone, setting' the Public Hearing date,
on March.6th, 19,56 at 7 o'clock p.m., in the
Council Chambers, City Hall, Petaluma, introduced
by Commissioner Talamant.es and seconded by
Commissioner Robfo.gel.,, was unanimously passed
by all members present..
Chairman Dickerson announced that this is the
last meeting -he. would- attend. Councilman King
and CommAssioner'Bigelow commended Chairman
Dickerson for his fa:i service to the
community and ;fe.lt that the City wall suffer a
great loss in his re

Taylor conducted the elect of Cha.irman and
Vice- Chairman. By.un,ani'mous vote, Commissioner
Taylor was elected Chairman and Commissioner
Ro,bfogel was.electe,d Vice - Chairman of the
Planning Commission, following which Chairman
Dickerson resumed the chairmanship.
There. 'being no further business to come before
the meeting, the meeting was adjourned.
