CONGREGATIONAL CHURCH Use Permit application -4287 of Congregational Church,
'B' and Fifth Streets-, to construct a church at the
Extension of Middlefield .Drive and Mission .Drive, per
plan .'submitted, R'l zone . wa the next item considered,;,
Malcoh Byce, an employee of the firm .Hahn, Wise and
.Associates and also a member of the church, Appeared
on behalf of the Congregational Churc hand presented
plans'. A plot of - survey plan ha,dalready be'e submitted..
when applying for the ap
plication. Mr. Byce reviewed
these plans with the, Commissioners, stating that the
large oak tree, which, was a landmark-, of the, area,, would
be retained and that the church contemplated the e ' xten-
sion of Middlefield Drive and Mission Drive. He stated
that. these streets would b,Q -constructed, the .church
bearing the cost of one-half of the street and the .owner
of the property fronting on the other side of the - street'
to pay for the other one-half of the cost of the street,
and would be conveyed to the City by deed or dedication.
He further stated that construction of the -church was
expected to begin in about. a year. A poli was taken of
the commissioners present and it was unanimously
decided that a public hearing was necessary, whereupon,
Chairman Taylor set the 21stday of May, 1957 as - the
date for the public hearing. The members of the
church present were instructed to have a representative .

COUNTY OF SONOMA,
BOARD - . OF - SUPERVISORS Use Permit application #310 of the Board of Supervisors
of' Sonoma County, Santa Rosa, to construct an auditor7
ium at the corner .of McN6ar Avenue and Redwood
Highway South., to be known as Petaluma Veterans'
Memorial Auditorium, R -1 Zone, was next considered.
The County Board of Supervisors did not have
a representative present, but a. letter supporting the
issuance of the use permit and giving general explaind-
tion. of the site 'and contemplated, building from Leigh&
Shoemaker, Supervisor of Second I District, Was read
and filed. In answer to a,. question from Mr. Harry Foot,
Chairman Taylor explained that inasmuch as the pr6r
perty was inside the City limits, all requirements, such
as, building, zoning, eJ&Ctriqa1, et(z.., of the City -would.

commissioners present and it was unanimously ded.ided

Fifth Street, fora variance of 1'1/2 ft. side yard
instead-of 5 ft.. required, to construct addition to resi-
dence in line with, existing house gat 228 Fifth Street,
R-3 - zone, was set for public . hearing by the Commission
for May .21st,, 1957 at 7`030 p. m. in. the Council Chambers
in the City Hall,.
5T.H ANNUAL CONFERENCE ON Chairman Taylor announced. that the 5th Annual Confer. -
CITY AND REGIONAL PLANNING ence on City and Regional Planning would be held on the.
17th day of May, 1.957 at the University of California
in Richmond and urged a11 commissioners to attend if
at all possible.
l OSSIBLE SITE FOR HIGH Chairman Taylor again -asked the commissioners to

Freeway north. of East Washington Street which had
been suggested by a real.tor as a possible site fora high
school in.EastPetaluma, so that the commission would
be able to give .an opinion -to the Board of Education if
requested. He further stated that the property was
about 5 /10 of .a mile on McDowell Rd: to the left of -East
Washington Street on the other side of Lynch Creek.
ADJOURNMENT There being no further business to come before the
meeting, the meeting was ,adjourned;
