HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution 96-224 07/15/1996 Resolution No. ss-2z4 N.C.S. of the City of Petaluma, California REQUESTING THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS TO CONSOLIDATE A SPECIAL MUNICII'AL ELECTION A CHARTER AMENDMENT REGARDING.REMOVAL OF THE CITY MANAGER FROM OFFICE ON NOVEMBER S, 1996, WITH THE STATEWIDE GENERAL ELECTION WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Petaluma has called a Special Municipal Election to be held on November 5, 1996, for the purpose of submitting a Charter amendment on removal of the Ciry Manager from office; and WHEREAS, it is desirable that the Special Municipal Election be consolidated with the Statewide General Election to be held on the same date and that within the City the precincts, polling places and election officers of the elections be the same, and that the Election Department of the County of Sonoma canvass the returns of the Special Municipal Election, and that the election be held in all respects as if there were only one election: NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, ORDERED, AND DECLARED AS FOLLOWS: 1. Pursuant to the Petaluma City Charter and requirement Election Code Section 10403, the Board of Supervisors of the County of Sonoma is hereby requested to consent and agree to the consolidation of a Special Municipal Election with the Statewide Primary election on Tuesday, November 5, 1996, for the purpose submitting a Charter amendment on removal of the City Manager from office. 2. The measure shall read as follows: Measure lat Mana er xemovai from ~mce Shall the voters of the City of Petaluma amend a portion YES of Charter "Section 23 -The City Manager" to delete "He cannot be removed from office except by a vote of five NO members of the council." and replace that with "He cannot be removed from office except by a vote of four members of the council."? 96-22~cs. Nes. Na .............................. . 3. The County Election Department is authorized to canvass the returns of the Special Municipal Election. The election shall be held in all respects as if there were only one election, and only one form of ballot shall be used. 4. The Boazd of Supervisors is requested to issue instructions to the County Election Department to take any and all steps necessary for the holding of the consolidated election. 5. The City of Petaluma recognizes that additional costs may be incurred by the County by reason of this consolidation and agrees to reimburse the County for such costs. 6. The County Election Department is requested to determine the cost of processing Absentee Ballots for this election and is further requested to report said cost to the City Clerk of the City of Petaluma at the eazliest possible time following the election. 7. The City Clerk shall file a certified copy of this resolution with the Board of Supervisors and with the County Election Department.
