HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution 96-213 07/15/1996.,~- A r Resolution No. ~~ N C.S. of the City of Petaluma, California t CALLING AND GTVING NOTICE OF A SPECIAL MUNICIPAL z ELECTION TO BE HELD ON TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 5, 1996, 3 FOR SUBMTTTAL OF A CHARTER.AMENDMENT ON COUNCTL SALARY 4 WHEREAS, under the provisions of the City of Petaluma Charter and the Taws of the State of 5 California, a Regular Municipal election shall be held on Tuesday, November 5, 6 1996, and, 7 WHEREAS, pursuant to authority provided by Article XI of the Constitution, Title 4, Division 8 2, Chapter 3 of the Government Code and Division 9, Chapter 3, Article 3 of the 9 Elections Code of the State of California, the City Council of the City of Petaluma to desires to submit to the voters a proposed charter amendment; and, 11 WHEREAS, the City Council is authorized and directed by statute to submit the proposed 1z charter amendment to the voters: t3 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, ORDERED, AND DECLARED AS FOLLOWS: 14 1. Pursuant to the requirements of the State of California and the Petaluma City is Charter, there is called and ordered to be held in the City of Petaluma, California, 16 on Tuesday, November 5, 1996, a Special .Municipal election for the purpose of 17 submitting a Charter amendment to the voters relating to City Council salary. Is 2. Pursuant to the requirements of the State of California and the Petaluma City 19 Charter, there shall be a Special election on Tuesday, November 5, 1996, at which zo election the following charter amendment shall be submitted to the voters: 2t Measure l;omnensanon - Shall the voters of the City of Petaluma amend Charter "Section l9 -Salaries" to read "The Council may act, by YES ordinance, to provide compensation to each of its members in an amount authorized by state law. The NO Council may act, by ordinance, to provide compensation to the Mayor in an amount up to 150 percent of the compensation set for Council members."? The ballots to be used at the. election shall be in the form and content as required 2 by law; and, 3 4. The City Clerk is authorized, instructed and directed to procure and furnish any 4 and all official ballots, notices, printed matter and all supplies, equipment and 5 paraphernalia that may be necessary in order to property and lawfully conduct the 6 election; and, 7 5. The polls for the election shall be open at seven o'clock a.m. of the day of the 8 election and shall remain open continuously from that time until eight o'clock p.m. 9 of the same day when the polls shall be closed, except as provided in Section l0 14401 of the Elections Code of the State of California; and, 11 6. That in all particulars not recited in this resolution, the election shall be held and 12 conducted as provided bylaw for holding municipal elections; and, 13 7. That the notice of the time and place of holding the election is given and the City 14 Clerk is authorized instructed and directed to give further or additional notice of 15 the election, in time, form and manner as required by law.
