EXECUTIVE SUMMARY Last year, the Petaluma Downtown Association (PDA) requested that the City Council authorize a second Antique Faire annually. Prior to giving its consent, the City Council asked that a survey of the downtown merchants be undertaken to determine the impact of a second faire. The PDA has conducted a survey and found that a super majority of merchants favored having a second faire. Therefore, the purpose of this,agenda:item is to transmit the survey results to the City Council and request that the City Council adopt a resolution authorizing a second Antique Faire annually. 2. BACKGROUND Of the 174 merchants directly impacted by the Antique Faire, 49 returned the PDA survey, with PDA summarizing the following results: ® Retail Businesses: ® 6 are completely opposed (1.8 %) © 3 are undecided (9 %)` ® 25 are supporters (73 %) 34 Total Restaurants ® 1 is completely opposed .(17%) ® 5 are supporters (83 %0)` 6 Total Service, Businesses ® All 8 who responded are supporters (100 %) Lodging ® 1 who responded is a, supporter (100 %) 3. ALTERNATIVES Deny the PDA request for a second Antique Faire annually. 40 FINANCIAL I1VIPACTS None. A 5. CONCLUSION The PDA has complied, with the City Counc'il's request for survey data on the impact of a second' Antique Faire on local businesses. The survey reveals that a second Antique Faire is stron supported by-the downtown merchants. Based on the results of the survey, it is recommended that City Council adopt the attached resolution, authorizing a second Antique Faire annually. 6. ®UTCOMES'OR PERFORMANCE MEASUREMENTS THAT WILL IDENTIRY SUCCESSOR COMPLETION: A second Antique Faire is held annually, thereby ,increasing the economic italfy of the Downtown Central BusinessDistrict. 7. They had a good weekend and support 2 faires Of the 170 Antique,vendors who attended the September 28` 2003 faire, 63 returned the survey and this is what we found: o 62 had a great day and fully support having '2 faires a year ® 1 reported a successful, event and will return next year, "but doesn't support 2 faires a year.
