AUTHORIZING THE MAYOR TO EXECUTE
MEMORANDUM OF AGREEMENT WITH
COUNTY OF SONOMA
BE IT HEREBY RESOLVED that the Mayor is authorized to execute that certain
Memorandum of Agreement with County of Sonoma, Environmental Health Division,
Department of Health Services for coordination of Leaking Underground Tank program by the
County of Sonoma and City of Petaluma.
Under the power and authority conferred upon this Council by the Charter of said City

MEMORANDUM OF AGREEMENT
Coordination of Leaking Underground Storage Tank Program.
by the County of Sonoma and the
City of Petaluma
The State Water Resources Control Board (SWRCB) and the County of Sonoma have entered
into a joint agreement identifying the Sonoma County Department of Health Services (SCDHS)
as the lead agency for regulating the preliminary site investigation and cleanup at non-exempt
leaking underground storage tank sites in Sonoma County. This document is to serve as an
additional agreement between Sonoma County and the City of Petaluma naming the SCDHS as
the lead agency for regulating. the preliminary site;investigationnnd cleanup at non-exempt leaking
underground storage tank sites within the City of Petaluma.
The SCDHS has a long standing working relationship with the San Francisco Bay Regional Water
Quality Control Board (SFBRWQCB) and all parties are confident-that the SCDHS' actions will
be consistent with the SFBRWQCB's policies andprocedures. The City of Petaluma will
cooperate with and use the SCDHS as a resourceā¢for clarifying technical and policy issues in
regazds to leaking underground storage tanks. Through this. StatelCounty/Local cooperation we
will be able to effectively address the underground storage tank leaks in the City of Petaluma.
This agreement may be terminated with a sixty (60) day written notice from either party stating its
reasons and intentions. At the end of sixty days from the date of receipt of said notice, this
agreement shall become void.
