2. BACKGROUND
On November 17, 2003 this project was awarded to Sonoma .County Builders. The City
of Petaluma currently owns the facility located at 555 No. McDowell Blvd., previously
occupied by the Marin/Sonoma.Mosquito and Vector Control "District, and purchased
with STP /CMAC (Federal, Transportation) funds. Within the facility exists a 6,280
square foot metal frame vehicle maintenance building, which. is now occupied by the
City's fixed transit and paratransit operational staff,
Transit operations <were formerly housed in. a temporary building located within the
Kenilworth Schoot.grounds, rented on a month -to -month :basis. The original lease with
the school district for this location expired. The remodel at .555 N. McDowell Blvd. is
completed, and the entire operation has relocated to the.new site..
Not only has the remodel provided improved office, space'for our fixed route and
paratransit providers, 'it, facilitates increased coordination between the two systems,
optimizing service to riders. In,addition, both transit systems are now located on the
same site as the City staff'person providing oversight for transit operations, making it
easier to monitor and administer transit contracts'and related activities.
