Planning Commission and City .Council meetings over the past few ,years and regularly follow
the city's political make-up'. .I ,am keenly interested in how and why it'functions, and I am inter
ested in the development of, and the environmental impacts on,; our .town, as well as how those
impacts are determined. I feel the'key to accomplishing. any goal, when working with a group of
people, is to listen to others' sand, try. to understand all the different opinions to' the' best of one's

with Petaluma Valley Little League, which gave me aLstart in my education on how4o work,within the governmental structure, as well
as With the Petaluma Parks'& Recreation Department and local school districts. Hater coached in different:sports and leagues, deal-
ing with different organizational structures and meeting, many people with varying Interests and commitments. Professionally, I'haVe
been self-employed since] was.20 years old and have had daily experience in dealing with all kinds of people', with varying goals
and interests, all working toward a common'good.
I have been attending Planning Commission meetings and City Council meetings:for;the past few years and have been interested in
the development of business zones`andGthe,enVironmental'.irripacts on ouf town, �aswell.as how those impacts are determined. I

It''is imperative in Petaluma that'we develop' newcross-town connectors. This, isn't going to be easy, as there are two major obsta-
cles in -the path of achieving this goal — Highway,101 and the Petaluma River. For we citizens to be able to,enjoy all of the amenities
our city has to offer, however, weLhave, to,be. able to move around more -freely. The -development of cross-town:.connectors is the log-
ieal approach to take, and much effort',and study must be conducted-to,find the most economically feasible approach of circumvent-
ing the river and the highway.
I would also'put forth effort to enhance, our bike, paths around our town. Linking all 'the current paths together would provide an
effective,alternative means of:transportation; forgetting around town. Safety will be enhanced because these paths will be designat-

Throughout the 1950's and 1960's I'visit_ed Petal.umai on a re.gu'l�ar basis as, my
grandparents and great grandparents lived here., My, mother was born in Petaluma
an'd my family spent holidays andthe like vis,iting,. I grew up throughout CaGifornia,
but,after study ing-the!,hi'story of Petaluma Planning at the, Harvard Graduate:°S'chzo'1
of Design, Ldevelo`ped an appreciation, for the.individ`u,al stance that Petaluma
planners .took during the economic boom of ,the 1960s '' and 70's: I- began to
understand how Petaluma was, able to 'maintain its architectural anal.agricultural
heritage, while other towns -close bywere succumb-ing to the pressures of residenfia'I
development. Petaluma thoughtfully envisi°oned its own future andI realized that I
wanted to be, part of that.
I returned°to Petaluma in 1984 to'raise my family. I opened a business in'Petal,ama
in 1,987 with my partners Sandra Reed and Stephanie. McAllister. We all'experi'enced
the energy in this town and felt in touch with the community values. We worked on
many projects in town including the Foundry Wharf and.the Petaluma, Factory Outlet
Vil:lage.. Through this process I began to -,appreciate the passion that the citizens of
Petaluma bring to the planning process.
In 1997 I joined the Central Petaluma Specific P`lan'to.help articulate the vision for
the downtown central core ,of- Petaluma. The energy and interest of. the committee,
members helped to realize an' innovative con'fompor,ary plan for our.do.wntown. I see
my commitment to community service as an extension of, my desire to help Petaluma
'maintain its architectural .historywhiae imple'nient'ing the collective: vision of its.
citizens. While I .have.worked pr:ofessio`nally on rnan.y ;international, national and local
development, projects and I am especially intrigued by the 'individual opportunities we
have here in Petaluma.
