RE: RIVAS SUBDIVISION -1081 BANTAM WAY
Dear Irene:
Please find enclosed replacement planset sheets and backup 'information' to show a relocation of the
proposed dry fire'department connection detailed on the Fire Protection/ Water Supply plan (sheet
4 of 5). These items are submitted pursuant, to the, August 18, 2003 .flow test by the City of
Petaluma, which showed adequate firewater supply at the existing ,hydrant, near the end of Bantam
Way. The resubmittal of plansett, sheets and backup consists of twelve copies each of items #1 and
#2 and one copy each of item #S listed below:
1. Preliminary Grading, Drainage and Utility plan (sheet 3 of 5)
2. Fire Protection/ Water Supply plan (sheet 4 of 5)
3. 8/19/03 Memorandum to Craig Spaulding RE,- Bantam Way flow test on
8/18/03
In summary, -the City coriducted, a .flow test -at the end of.Bantam Way on August 18, 2003, which
showed that 15:50 gpni at,20 psi' is available at' that location.(see FH#4 on, plansei sheet 4 of 5) when
Paula Lane Tank water elevation is at 18.75 ft (Tess than full tank). The August 18 flow test provides
evidence of substantially.more flow at 20 psi than was predicted'by the City KYPIPE water model.
The City KYPIPE water model was used as a basis .for fire flow calculations and apparently provides
a very conservative analysis; ie: the City watermodel prediced'1500 gpm At 12 psi at node 903 which
represents FH#4).
Item #3 (the memorandum) was provided to Craig Spaulding and copied to you and Michael Ginn
on 8/19/03. On August 20, l spoke with Craig Spaulding, who advised modifying the tentative map
application to show the, dry line Fire Department connection installation near the existing hydrant

at the end of Bantam. Way near the -end of existing City
improvements (FH#4 on,planset sheet 4 of
5). This new location saves approximately 4501f of 8" pipe
ipe installation and Craig Spaulding
indicated the City Would benefit by nothaving 'so much construction in or near the existing new City
street.

RE: Bantam Way flow test on 8/18/03
The following it fonmatioh, is provided to provide support referenced CS'W/St2 calculations. The
8/18/03 flow test data is compared io-,data;for hydrant #4 in the referenced fireflow calculations in
Attachment 5. The following items 'are attached:'
Attachment 1 Conference notes indicating flow test data
Attachment 2 Diffuser Gauge, pressure to. flow conversion .graph
Attachment 3 Bantam Way Flow Test Map
Attachment 4 FH flow, test graph -for hydrant at the end of;,Bantam Way
Attachment 5 Data comparison to,Ri'v.as Minor Subdivision'Fireflow Calculations, 11/01
Attachment 1 is,a record -of flow test data. Attachment 4 Was created, using Attachments 1 and 2. The
location of the test/flow hydranfis seen on Attachmentl Attachment S ,provides the graphical analysis
which shows that previously.submitted• calculations are. valid when compared to, 8/18/03 test data.
Based on the 8/18/.03 flow test data, it isobserved that the.hydrant-.at.the: end of Bantam Way is able to
flow at least 1500 gpm,with a20 psi:residual-(actual graphed.data indicates,15'50gpm at 20 psi for this
hydrant - see.Attachment4). This hydrant isreference&at FHA in the Rivas Mirim Subdivision Fireflow,
Calculations, 11/01: Based on the City water model, which was used as a basis for the fireflow
calculations, we previously believed it was necessaryto go to ahydrant at'a lower elevation in Bantam Way
in order to meet.the flowobiective of l'500 gpm at 20 psi for usewith, the dry fireline•.. With the field data
that we observedon 8/18/03 providing evidence to show there is 1500 gpm at 20'psikresidual at the last
hydrant in Bantam Way; We request to reviseplans to show connection of the dry fireline to FHA instead
of'FH.3. See -the 8/4/03 Fire Protection/Water Supply Plan - Proposed, planset sheet 4 of 5, for the
locations of FH4 arid-FH:3.
