FYI .From: Cam Jim Sent: - ;Friday June, 18, ,2004 3AU FM Top White, Geor9e; Archordoguy, Ed Subject:. Riverview Subdivision and the Hansen House George, I just met with Frank. Denny regarding the Riverview Subdivision and the Hansen House. g t Project, y Planning. Commission ,asked •Frank to discuss with me the poss bfl ty of mov rig the proposed playground fromthe original area in the Open Space area to. lot 59 (Jacquelyn Lane), as a means of furtherpresenring some existing Oak trees. My preference is to not relocate the `proposed playground fora number of reasons. a. least two, ofthe •existing oak trees will be removed due to.: disease. With construction in an area that in the past has e been open'space, [believe there will be impacts the trees that in my mind, make.ait questionable; locating a park with a 018yground'beneath : or near'the I believe, that this could be a`dangerous Situation., b: The topography ofthe proposed site off of Jacquelyn Lane, does not lend itself`to a level, sizable play area. c. Theoriginal proposed site is accessible tosnumerous' homes due to its location especially being located on the open space pedestrian / bike trail. Mr. Denny also; mentioned the possibility of developing some kind of memorial and playground in Sunrise Park, as an alternative to renovating the Hansen House. Mr. Denny indicated that he would work with the 'Hansen supporters and the neighborhood. timenT,he proposal possibility and mentioned: :a proposal my. Department has, been =discussing forsome sal calls• for the removal, of: an existing asphalt1path that currently runs the length of the park, right through the center. The plan we,have, been discussing is to remove thelasphalt path and return'that area tolurf, ,thus providing an area for neighborhood :children to play,. A new concrete path would be located atthe top of bank,, along the northern edge of the park (mirroring Gl enwood Park, across Maria, Drive), that'would rumfrom Maria to , McDowel) Blvd. As, I indicated to Mr. Denny the neighborhood would bo involved in any design of,the park, and .the proposal mentioned above would be: a major benefit to them and'thier children.; If a playground. was added atone edge ofthe turf the community would be receiving an asset: IfMr.,Denny could get, the Hansen_, proponents to buy into the idea, possibly the park could contain a memorial and / or be named after them, all subject'to the kecreation, Music and Parks' Commission, the City Councilland the neighbors: Please- let•Jani Alsep know about this meeting and;the points I discuss; above.
