CITY OF PETALUMA CALIFORNIA
MEMORANDUM
Parks'and Recreation Department,, 320 No. McDowell Blvd., Petaluma, CA. 94952
(707) 778 -4380 Fax (70'7) 778 -4473
DATE` January 24, 2003
TO: Bill Thomas, Finance Director
FROM: Jim Carr, Director of.Parks and Recreation
SUBJECT,`: Surplus Property: McNear Park Field Lights
The McNear .Park ball. field lights were taken down by direction of the City Council .in,2000. The
six light poles and fixtures are currently being, stored at McNear Park, behind the Cavanagh
Recreation Center and in the Corporation Yard.
The Penngrove Social Fireman's Group who is trying to light Penngrove Park, has recently
a
fixtures and poles surplus, and donate them to the Perin grove Social Fireman's Group. he Fight
approached the City about using the McNear Park lights. I recommend that we declare
Pp
The
Penngrove group has indicated that they will remove, the poles at their cost, which would not be
the case if a salvage company should, contract :to 'reniove them.
If, in the future the City should need athletic field lights, we have been advised that is would be
cheaper to purchase ne'-poles and fixtures in order to take advantage of new'technology.
Therefore I see no advantage for the City to hold, onto this equipment.
